Silly point, that cat looks too fat to be a feral one, I know nothing about feral cats at all - is that a feral cat or someone's pet?

Personally I like a bit more mag than the 6 power. I had a 7x50 Meopta which I recently turned into a 22RF rifle :-) It was very good, but I stupidly got the IR model as I was guided by salesperson advice. Never again... I thought that the crosshairs would be too fine on the non-IR model, I was wrong, they would have been perfect. I've got a 4-16x50 Nikko on my 223 at the moment, not the same league I know, but the extra bit of magnification is lovely. How about a 10x40 Bushnell Elite 3200? They are far cheaper than the S&B and the glass is perfectly adequate for lamping use, as we

Ballistic tip ammo expands about as quickly as possible, so it's the best idea for stopping exit wounds. Fox vs 223 will always result in an exit wound, 223 carries nigh-on twice the grunt of Hornet. Everyone I know who has used ballistic tip 22 Hornet says the fox in question had no exit but the innards were just mush, at least they sounded like it.

So a smaller calibre will drop a deer if it was to miss bone (ribs) and muscle- sounds logical i suppose. So head shots would be a theorhetical no-no because of the skull?!? is this correct. No, that's not what I'm saying. If you place a shot accurately for the heart, 22LR has enough grunt to get through a rib and penetrate the heart. But that's pretty much all it will do if it has to go straight through a rib. Head shot accurately placed will work - the skull is actually relatively lightly armoured. What 22LR will IMHO struggle with is if you get the shot slightly wrong and ask it

Minimum age to try a rimfire?
Mr_Logic replied to Mr_Logic's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
From the Gun Control Network (of all places!!) Children and Guns Current laws allow children of any age to use guns in clubs and on private land. There is no minimum age limit for this which is surprising given the killing power of the gun. The new government proposals do not address this problem except to a very limited extent in relation to the unsupervised use of airguns. Amazingly ironic that the antis contribute to helping us out for once -
Minimum age to try a rimfire?
Mr_Logic replied to Mr_Logic's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thanks Jamie. The official standpoint from the BASC for adults is that no problem, rifles are fine under supervision (and that can be the other side of the field for lamping). I might give them a call and find out what happens when the child is 9... -
I was having a chat with a colleague the other day, he has two boys, one of whom is about 8-9 and would love to try shooting. Personally I don't have an issue letting him blat a tin can with my rimfire, I'm quite happy to introduce youngsters to the sport, it helps for the future! But, is there a legal minimum age for letting someone have a few shots?

22LR will do the job with the right placement. It's all about penetration and wounding. If you use a 22LR and expect it to punch a hole right through the tough bits, it's not likely to happen. But put that shot right, and it will whizz through lighter tissue right into the vitals, and over goes the deer. The idea with the bigger calibres is that you CAN go straight through the hefty stuff and still get to the vitals. To say 243 is the minimum is daft though, 223 will work, as will 22-250, they have penetration and expansion to do the job.
-
As I understand it, that's the general idea
-
The original 243 variation turned into 22-250 because I was to be mentored on 243 and didn't have a mentor. Thereafter it's just fate - I put in for a quad, then two days later 223 and 243. Ended up with the quad, a new Hornet AND the 223 and 243.
-
I wouldnt be too sure on that one, a centrefire for fox is a centrefire for fox in most licensing depts eyes. If it were a .243 or a .222, if you havnt used a centrefire before then they may still insist on mentoring. However, seen as youve shot a rimfire for a good few years with no problems then they could let you have one without supervision, the best thing to do is ring your dept and see what they say, most are quite helpful it seems, they are there to give advice on these matters, and if they say you have to shoot with a mentor then just, go and Zero it with your mentor and have a few c

And....? You were going to get 243 before, what's changed you?
-
Have a butcher's here: http://www.countryside-alliance.org.uk/sho...licence-advice/ Looks like you now have to ask the crows and pigeons nicely to f*** off before you shoot them
-
Count yourself lucky you can get more of the same, round here i bought all the Hornet ammo and the buggers haven't got any more!! The ballistic tip in question is either Remington or more likely Hornady 35g, it flies at 3100fps, and though it loses energy quicker, starts more powerfully and flies flatter. It's also bloody well loaded and so very accurate. Basically if it's in stock, "I'll have that one please." ... "How many would you like?" .... "Oh, as many as my ticket says..." And nobody ever has it round here so I've not tried it, but I've never ever heard a bad word said, and lo

Sounds like a duff mod to me, unless something was awry with the threading. Your mate has every right to kick off with the supplier though, they should at least test the rifle and work out what happened.

Went out this PM, was going to zero the 223, having fixed its mounts from this AM. Deker texted saying let's go and shoot a deer (since he's my mentor we thought we'd get started). So off we toddled, complete with 223 and 243, and Deker's Tikka. Pitched up, saw a deer PDQ, and moments later my first deer fell over. 85gr hollow point did the trick very nicely. But I did feel it somewhat unfair to shoot her while she was having a pee Moving on, go to zero the 223 while we waited for people to disappear (didn't want to gralloch (sp?) it with people about, one of my neighbours doesn't lik

Hmmm... well I think I need a variation to remove the 17HMR and 22WMR barrels and add a 308 rifle for deer and another 223 as a sporting rifle, the Howa's a bit heavy for an evening's rabbiting...
-
It's the 20 inch barrel, shoots really well. I will leave the trigger for now and see if it beds down a bit, it's not that bad anyway.
-
Well it's been a mad old week. Got my ticket back Thursday before last with 22LR, 22 Hornet, 223, 243 and I've now bought all of them. Mad really... Latest was a CZ 452 Style (the nickel thing). Shoots well, nice and light. Any advice on the trigger - it's not bad but I would like less travel for a cleaner break. (I don't want to replace it at this stage) I know I can adjust it but how good does it get, before I dismantle a rifle I've had for 8 hours? I also got: RWS Titan 6 .243 Stainless/wood - very nice rifle, very accurate. Well balanced and with the ASE mod on it, little rec

shooting rabbits from a helicoptor
Mr_Logic replied to Disco's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
A calm day would be enough, lots of choppers can hover on auto But rabbits are a small target I agree. -
Care in the community, hmmm... I am very grateful for the shooting though, it's utterly rejuvenated my interest in it all, much to the annoyance of the bank manager and other half RWS: http://www.jagd-shop.at/produkte_en.html James - 223 is mainly for use on the range, so it's heavy barrel (though sadly not fast twist, but it's 200 yard so it's OK) and big stock and all that good stuff. I will use it on the occasional fox because it means I can also shoot rabbits for the pot, with 243 even a headshot is very messy.
-
Deker took me out again this evening after foxes and the occasional bunny. I took the 243, Deker his rimfire. Got loaded up and both of us were moaning about the wind, thinking we shouldn't be bothering. But, well, since we're here.... So we headed off to the first field, halfway we felt rain, then it came out of nowhere, p1ssing down and driving wind as well. We took shelter for a while behind a barn, and gave the rain a while to stop. It didn't. I got bored and headed off to see if I could spot a fox, in preparation for heading home. Amazingly, I did spot a fox. At least I though

I use factory ammo, I haven't got the space to reload

I was out tonight with the Hornet, I zeroed it earlier with the fag end of a box of ammo. It was spot on then, and two bunnies in 10 minutes this evening, it was spot on ce soir as well. But... I then changed boxes and missed everything. Frustrated, I whacked a target up and found that it was 2 inches high. re-zeroed and then whacked a fox. Missed a couple of rabbits as well, but unlike the earlier ones I wasn't happy with the shots. Earlier, I had had the crosshair on skull and got off perfect shots only to see a terrified bunny rabbit pegging it. Is it normal to have that much varian

MTC Viper 4-16 x50 or Bushnell elite 6-24 x40?
Mr_Logic replied to luketurner's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
GET THE BUSHNELL I do mean to shout. I have an MTC and it's OK, but the Bushnell will destroy it in every way.
