  1. I got a bedlington/whippet in March, she's 6 months now and coming on really well. Marking well and already on to the bolters. Retrieves when Im shooting too. Fabulous dog, couldnt recommend highly enough. Good luck and happy hunting. G
  2. 4z long nest I use for the real drops. Ummh, maybe i should try a net
  3. I agree mate, white was too much What with the rain and wind they are spotless and gleaming now, next change will be dying em dark green same as 4z long nest I use for the real drops. I don't think I dare increase the yardage between poles though. Its ten yards between poles now, much more and I'm worried the top line will be easily pulled down under the weight of a rabbit or two meshed up. How did the cam testing go? Regards. G.
  4. Took the dummy nets down today.. 22 days and nights and still the rabbits are not passing underneath the net. Richie had a good point about the colour...maybe white was a bit much....the wheat is recovering well though Any suggestions anyone? HH all. G
  5. Its not listed on the site....but if you give them a ring they'll know exactly what your after, well, they did with me anyway HH. G.
  6. Make your own mate. Advanced Netting: http://www.advancednetting.co.uk/ will give you 132m of 4z for about £15 and will also supply lines. I make 1 50 yarder with that amount and it bags nicely as its over 100% I have made several this way and they work a treat. It's not rocket science, the hardest thing is threading the head and foot lines....which if you buy from advanced netting is made easier as they supply the nets with a cord already running through the selvedge. (Maybe all suppliers do this, not sure) Then its a simple matter to just attach your braided line to the cord and pull it th
  7. Hi Rich, I tend to agree about the net colour, it is a bit conspicuous I wanted to see if it worked before wasting money and time on dyeing. Strangely, from 50 yards or so away at the bottom of the bank on the roadside its almost invisible against the sky! Its actually a lot less obvious than the normal green 4z net I use. However, the total lack of rabbits passing under it after 11 days now is definitely getting me thinking... I'll send you a pm in a bit with more detail. Whip, thanks for the comps, I would be happy to do a post for beginners, but I am a long netting beginner m
  8. 1 week and 2 days.... The rabbits are still not venturing under the net! The wheat is recovering nicely HH G.
  9. Thanks for suggestions folks, maybe someone else is mooching around the buries.... G.
  10. Yes, loads...its a permission I have wanted for a while. Its quite inaccessible and I'm fairly sure no one has been in with a blade of any kind. But will rabbits eat nettles? Cheers. G.
  11. Hi folks, On one of my permissions I have noticed heavy grazing of nettles...... Its at the top of a steep bank on a busy roadside and not a passing point for deer or any other large animal. No cows for miles and sheep several fields away. No horses either, nothing but rabbits. Anyone else seen this? I haven't noticed it before, usually the rabbits seem to use the nettles as cover. HH all. G.
  12. 24 Hours later.....and I should add its been quite windy... But, had a wander past to check all still intact and found that 1 end pole has snapped, and the other has collapsed Not the end of the world, just need to find something stronger for the 2 end poles and bang them in. The end poles do take much more strain as they are dealing with the top guy peg off too. They did both look quite bent yesterday...... Only 2 rabbits out and both on the other side of the fence. Usually at this time 4pm, in sunshine, there would be 5 - 6 plus on average, out in the wheat. So they've got the f
  13. Dummy net up this morning. Initial observation is that it looks like a really crap net So hopefully no one will think it worth bothering to steal. Its a bit flimsy on the bamboo canes but it should stay up I think. Now to watch the bunnies..... I'll update with observations next week. HH all. G.
  14. Thanks Leepy, yes Gollum is the chap on your avatar, I have a similar pic on my profile page... All the best. G
  15. Wahey.....Homebase are doing 2.4 metre bamboo canes for £3.99 for 10. Bit shorter than I planned but.....it means my entire dummy rig will have a value of £7! Not too fussed if anyone nicks that. More news when I've tested to see how long it takes em to get over "the fear" HH all. G
  16. Hi Stubby If its the same pipe I'm thinking of (solvent weld or pushfit overflow pipe) the 22.5mm is too flexible. I think even the 40mm would be a struggle to stay stable at 9 foot Thanks for the suggestion, and also thanks for all your efforts on the alternative locator. Shame it didnt work out but really good of you to go to the trouble and post for us all. Cheers mate. G.
  17. Hi folks, well I set up the nets... Left em for 3 days Good news, net operated flawlessly over 100 yards. Bad news, only 2 rabbits caught :realmad: The little devils are very wary of the net & poles. This field definitely has rabbits in numbers, the hedge is directly next to a 5 foot deep drainage culvert that has hundreds of holes all along its length. The grass is like a bowling green and there are runs crisscrossing everywhere.... I'm convinced that they will overcome the fear its just a question of time. The problem is I dont want my nets nicked and
  18. their looking good gollum ! how old are they now ? i like the one flopped over the ply chilling... rich 7 weeks now....and full of life. Chaos 24/7 G.
  19. I start at 9 and go to 18 then back to 9. 22 meshes in all.
  20. Looking good Richie Heres my lot last night, out for the count. Domestic bliss eh, check the grin on the hob I'll pm you about the drop netting.... Regards G
  21. Hi folks, Hobs available from 23rd June. Both parents good workers from working stock. Pm please if you are interested.
  22. Don't forget to tail your nets. I lost 2 bunnies on my first attempt with ferrets, they ran along the net and then ducked round the end  When I say "tail your nets" I mean set the last 5 - 10 yards at each end at right angles to the main net line, if your ferreting then bring the right angled end section in to the hedge, if netting without ferrets then bring them out in to the field. Hope this helps, and good luck. G.
  23. Does anyone else find themselves humming/singing/whistling daft tunes on the way home from a fun day with the ferts? My current, "dont fence me in" when covered in stings and scratches stinking like a pig with bits of bramble and nettle hangin off my coat draws strange looks from the locals as I pass on the way to the car....cant imagine why Oh, give me land, Lots of land under starry skies above, Don't fence me in, Let me ride thru The wide open country that I love, Don't fence me in. Let me be by myself In the evening breeze, Listen to the murmur Of the cottonwood trees, S
  24. This little chap is now 5 weeks and 2 days old, he is the dominant hob in the litter and can already drag a half grown rabbit carcass round the hutch! Great temperament though...no nips yet..and loves to be handled. Mum and babies all doing well G
  25. Definitely go with the gloves...and long sleeves too unless you like being stung and scratched to bits A bottle of water and drinking bowl for your ferts is a must too, as is the spade..... I'm still out n about as my permissions want on going rabbit control but it gets tougher by the week... Also take a dog to help you find the holes HH G.
