Hi heritage, welcome to the site mate. Please post the pics, it would be very useful indeed. To get them on this forum use the "browse" button at the bottom right of the reply page to locate and select your pictures then use the "upload" button to upload them to the site. Then, once you can see them in the attachment drop down field above the "upload" button select the pic and insert it in your text by clicking on the green cross nest to the file name. Hope that makes sense. HH. G.

Try this: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...=cheap+drop+net good luck. G. Gollum read all the posts on your thread, Mick Mansbridge did do some drop netting on one of his vids he used gas barrel though. How did you get on with your efforts, did you post another thread on the subject? Hi Badgeroy, I haven't done any more testing.... what I can say with certainty is that the designs I put up work in operational terms. i.e. the net stays lofted when its supposed to and drops reliably. It is stable, and extemely cheap to manufacture. £30 or thereabouts. Th

Went off to lay a net down and see if the rabbits would pass over it on Monday night. The thundering of hooves and glint of brass soon put paid to that! Unfortunately the farmer has moved a particularly large and single minded Bull in to the field. Should be out again soon though... I'll post as soon as I've tried it out. Thanks all for input so far. G.

Cheers Moley, appreciated mate. G.

i bought one of these setups many years ago , i can flip up 200 yds of net in one go with no problem, the 1st time i set it up was with a brand new net on fixed poles so as you can imagine , the net stank of newness and the rabbits ran over no bother , all 4 0f them, i havn,t tried it as much as i should have , but wasnt too eager to leave all that expensive kit laid in a field even tho it isn,t easily seen untill you are close to it , i might hunt it out and give it another try this winter Thanks Rob, interesting idea. I'll have a look at that and see if it eases the lifting. M

Hi Tiercel, Thanks for input mate, I tend to agree about the claws issue. It was only because I had seen the Brinded site that it seemed plausible. I am working on the premise that if someone is prepared to manufacture a rig to sell to the public then presumably it works... That said I am far from convinced..... The mechanics of the lift are not as problematic as I thought they might be. Its extremely simple to do on a short run of 15 yards just using 3 guy lines and a couple of screw in eyes mounted in stakes. You can set it so the whole thing lies flat and then pops up rock solid at

It was the Brinded site where I got the idea, pics on their not too informative but worked out approximately how to do it. Did have my doubts about rabbits walking over it .....think I might nip out and lay 50 yards down in front of a hedge I know has bunnies in it and sit up in the truck with the night vis and see how cautious the rabbits are. I know drop nets can take several day if not more before they get over the fear, it'll be interesting to see how they react. HH all. G.

In the process of rigging a lift net at the moment... Hoping it will be more versatile than the drop net as it could be left layed flat behind a hedge without Jo public nicking or sabotageing it! Having some fun deciding on the best method for lifting the net, got a 15 yard stop net lifting no problem but 50 yards is a bit more of a challenge. I can see a couple of ways of doing it, but wonder if anyone has a working rig or design I might adapt to what I am doing. Has anyone used one in the field? If so any snags, are the rabbits happy to walk over it etc etc. Any suggestion

Thanks, I did wonder about the DIY approach.... If you could put up those links, it would be appreciated. Any special tools needed? Cheers. G.

I bought an S410 a while back and am due to send it off for the recommended annual factory checks. I assume these checks are essential to check your not in danger of being killed by the gun exploding.... and so am relatively happy to send it off. That said I havent checked up on the cost of doing so yet... Do other owners send there pre charged guns back on a regular basis? Be interested to know what others experience with this has been, costs, etc. HH all. G.

Try this mate http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...drop+net+update But instead of dummy nets use a header line with strings hanging from it to mimic the action of a net. A certain fine gent on here put me straight on that one in his book "Peg to Peg" For a good read and stacks of useful information I would thoroughly recommend it. If you pm Molecatcher on here, he may able to sell you a copy direct. good luck. G

Hi Rolfe, me too seem to last well too, mine have had a good workout over the winter, and bar the odd one that I cut from wands that were a bit too thin, they are taking the strain well Happy hunting. G. -
Would a .22 air rifle be suitable for a mink? If not, the landowner has a 22 rimmy. Don't worry about the teeth...I am not going near em mate If its in a cage then its one gun or the other definitely! HH. G

Cheers OTC, any way I can confirm it's mink? Particular sign I should look for etc. Would you set Fenns or cage traps? Got some MK6's (genuine ) that could be pressed in to service or I could borrow some more cage traps off another farmer I work for possibly. Thanks for help mate. G. Either will do the trick, flood the place with them - he won't have gone too far and they are not trap shy To be honest there is not much to go on, but what ever it is would be caught in a similar way as described above. OTC ok, I'll try both. Cheers, I'll post if we have any l

Hi folks, A chap I work for has a large garden with chickens (cooped) and ducks loose in his pond. 2 days back he had 7 ducklings killed overnight. They were being kept in a concrete floored stable that only has one access point other than the door, which is a window about 5 foot from the floor. It has 2" weld mesh on the inside of it but on the night concerned, the window was open. All the birds seem to have been killed by bites to the neck and judging by the lack of blood, killed fast. None were taken and they were all piled together in the straw. I havent checked for any other access p

Hi all, The phone sim was getting near full and needed downloading.... Heres a few pics from the last couple of weeks. Raynard had been plagueing a farmer friend, he'd had a pop at a lamb earlier in the week so I set the trap for him and crossed my fingers. (the trap is ancient, found it in the woods on another estate I work for and they kindly donated it to the cause ) Had to rig a new trigger but it seem to have worked ok. It was baited with rotten rabbit guts and a pile of skins tied to the trigger. Another couple of good reasons to catch Raynard... And a satisfyi

vermin and pest control databases
gollum replied to Holdaway's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Hi, My excel sheet has the following fields: Day, Date, Time, Estate, Location, Specific location, Weather, Method, Mileage, Ferrets, Catch, Quarry, Observations, Butcher, Game Dealer, Freezer, Costs. This is then linked to other sheets that chart the data in various ways and give me running totals etc. Looking back at your data can be a very revealing exercise. HH all. G. -
Hi folks, Been cage trapping for a while and although things were going well, suddenly the bait has started disappearing from the cages without them triggering. Perplexing at first as I knew that the same cages had caught rabbits perfectly ok the previous week so i checked the triggers and no problems there. Decided to visit the site at different times of day and see if I could spot the culprit. No luck so far, but the huge numbers of pigeons and quite a few pheasant lead me to believe its birds pecking it out through the mesh. I've been using apple which had instant results wi

One of my hob's had a vasectomy last week. The vet specifically asked me to make sure the assisistant could find his testes when i took him in the morning, to be sure that a problem like this didnt occur. It's simple enough, if you can feel them and see them clearly hanging then the job is on, if not then I was advised we would reschedule. In my case (the ferrets i mean) there was no problem and they went ahead and i got him back same day, very neatly sewn up and none the worse for the surgery. 2 follow up visits scheduled, 1 the following day and the next a week later. Neither of which were c
