yes it was a good night, my 10 month old beddo x had a couple of bunnys and a brilliant retrieve of a long ear. Took that with the rifle i also had up my sleeve , so to speak. Its her first taste of the big uns so as you can imagine, i'm feeling like a proud dad right now,,, well something like that anyway. good luck with the pup. strong looking bull x that, and not looking too heavy on the front end. youve definately got a good chance of getting something if he gets some runs..

here here.. ive not been on the site long and its already doing my head in reading anti-this and anti that. it really is ruining an otherwise BRILLIANT site. PLEASE PEOPLE CALM DOWN A BIT. talking about illigal activities is up to whoever concerned, and if they are actually breaking the law, then blowing hot air around a forum matters none. if antis are stupid enough to go chasing every kid that dreams of being a bad ass badger digger etc then leave it to them.. for sure they are not silly enough to believe everything that people write so how is it that everyone else seems to on here. let peop

totally agree. all 16 year old lads want to talk pit-bulls and pigs and fighting and girls. its what young lads think being a man is all about. hell grow out of it if hes guided in the right direction.. lay off him

well im about to breed my 2 from the same litter, so if they come out wrong i'll be sure to let everyone know. i will also cull ruthlessly if necessary

ive given all of mine away except 2 pairs. one pair are quite mature (18 months), but one pair are only about 11 months old.. and theyre related, but ive got no choice as my other hob is massive and dont want to put my best jill across him... age is no problem though.

if i had any spare equip i would like to hep you out, but ive not got much at the minute. when i get the 20 hemp nets im waiting for i'll send you some of my nylons.. you should have enough though to start with now after everyone has ben so generous. its a credit to the hunting life people. well done and i hope you find a locator. i usually dont use mine unless im going out late or ferreting bramble and my ferrets ALWAYS come back up after 20 mins and never stay with the kill. each to their own though, i wouldnt advise anyone on this as i wont be responsible for dangerous advise. i might lose

deffinately go for the beddo cross though and you wont go wrong.. imo

give her two eggs a week on her grub or cod liver oil!whats a lug a tick like a might if so sheep dip will kill every thing very powerfull stuff frontline is good aswell clean out her bedding regulary with the wire coat its a bollox to keep clean had wire fox terrier at one stage c**t for it try that an a bit of brush should b fine thanks for the post. a lug is just a tangled bit of fur like a dreadlock. will be trying the eggs and cod liver oil so she might brush easier soon.
-
anyone else agree that a couple of eggs on top of her diet a week and less baths should help? sounds good to me, ive got most of the luugs and tangles out now, but i know a shinier and smoother coat would help, its just getting it that way im struggling with. thanks for the posts

DOES A HUNTING DOG NEED WORKING PARENTS
foyrious replied to wilxster's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
your obviously better to go with proven stock, peronally i would, but i do think some breeders play up the 'working stock' and 'proven lines' thing too much. Ask a professor of biology how much working parents actually affect the gene-pool and you'll get the answer. at the beginning, all dogs were working and unless traits like hunting ability have been purposely bred OUT of the dog like some show breeders have done for different reasons, most dogs can be trained to hunt.. even if they are crap at it -
My beddo lurcher always seems to look scruffy and shes only 10 month old? she gets brushed almost daily, bathed weekly, yet still she has lugs on her inside legs and chest (mainly) which are painful when ripped out and always return. any tips or advice on beddo x coat maintainence would be apreciate as its doing my head in..

MAKES ME WANNA BUY A REAL NICE CAMERA AS I'D LOVE TO HAVE SOME OF MY DOG IN ACTION.. THEYRE BRILLIANT, KEEP THEM COMING IF POSSIBLE
-
theres been loads of greyhounds bigger than that which have been excellent pot fillers, and wouldnt need lifting over every gate and stream whilst trying to lamp... i know coz my grandads did just that, and knew the difference between a squatter and a bird, which he could take also using his grace and brain...WHAT A DOG SPIKE WAS!!, so size isnt everything, its what you do with it. (sure ive heard that phrase before)
-
brilliant dvd.. i find most lamping/coursing dvds out there are full of all the in-between and not much of the action.. shame theres only a couple of runs on the bigger game coz that was class.. apart from wrecking crew, most ive watched are slow. thats why i usually buy the pest controllers ferreting n all that n just borrow the hare coursing ones coz i wouldnt watch them twice. the coursing events are okay if your into greys.. cant be much more help than that.
-
i have seen a lads bedlington on here, he answered to my post in the lurcher and hounds etc section on my pups first run and it looked so racey it would deffinately do for lamping, and this was supposed to be a streight beddo. this is the exception though and there must have been some outcrossing further back in the dogs ancestry. nice dog though, and somehow dont think sue has one of the same strain.

gorgeous pup.. mines 9.5 months and shes caught 3 droppers id netted with ease. she retreives live to hand so im gonna give her a hare retreive (shot) soon as poss. cant wait... i'm just so relieved that shes turming out the way i wanted. good luck with yours mate..
-
if you want to see pippa catcj her first dropper and retreive it live to hand 3 times go to 'my lurchers first catch of a dropper id netted' on youtube. no punctuation, just as ive wrote it. she did brilliant, and at only 9.5 months old... [bANNED TEXT] a catch. it might take an hour or so to be accepted on youtube forst so keep trying it... im buzzin with how she performed and as ive said earlier on this thread, i knew she was ready to catch her first bunny... it was a healthy good size doe, and the rabbits are fast as thay come up my way..

OUT TODAY SHOT AND RETRIEVED HARES
foyrious replied to poacher9991's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
hmmmm. well done.. i think -
at 12 weeks you shouldnt even be concerned about running the dog. just feed it, water it , love it andintroduce it to as many sights and sounds of the countryside as you can... THEN teach it the basic commands and behaviour you want. ive made sure that my dog is a steady ferreter and retreives objects well, and at 9 months shea ran her first 2 bunnys and been very unlucky., i know shes ready and you will too. good luck with it..
-
exactly... only experienced dogs know to run the beam until they spot the quarry so moving bunnys are really the best option.... without looking foolish dragging your dog the length of the field with it looking every which way but forwards.lol. ive seen this done too many times so i'll be getting it right first time(i hope)
