£300 compensation for striated caracara

A 33-year-old Watford man who stole a bird of prey has been ordered to pay more than £1,000 in fines and compensation and costs.
James Long, of Chillwell Gardens, denied theft but was found guilty of stealing the striated caracara lent to him by Adam Weald, of Blackbird Farm in Blackbird Lane, Aldenham.
Long pleaded not guilty in June to the theft of the bird on February 10, but was found guilty at St Albans Magistrates' Court Monday.
