Price For Squirrel Trapping In The Garden?
jackg replied to jackg's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I caught six and then the customer said, That's enough." I had four traps but two were catching them. One each morning and two on Sunday. One was an Elgeeco with an old type catch mechanism which does not work too well upright, I had it on its side in a tree. The door is a bi-folding one rather than the version on youtube with the door that lifts up and hooks onto the feeder. On mine a rod goes in a loop on the door to set the door open, and it does not work too well when set upright. Interestingly the last one was lactating and I could see the saliva of her kits on her nipples. So gu -
Price For Squirrel Trapping In The Garden?

I checked on the councils web site, it's actually £192 for two weeks squirrel control if the house owner checks the traps. If the council check the traps its £300 odd. I spoke the council pestie and he told me they rent the Kanias in effect. Said they use Sunpack Extra Crunchy peanut butter (it smells more than the std stuff) or the chocolate spread. I think their hourly rate is just over £100. I think I'll charge more this time as they can be tricky. Something like £50 set up and £30 per visit. -
The council charge £125 for renting Kanias in the loft for a couple of weeks. I charged £50 set up and £10 per squirrel for the last job I did. Not sure how to price squirrels in the garden as attendance is required to despatch each one and to reset the trap. I have one cage trap and a bodygrip and cage and the crappy bird feeder in a cage type (Peacocks or some company). Probably get more cage traps. Can anyone advise.

Checking the best way to advertise. My subscription to the BTMR runs out shortly so I used google to find which sites come top of the rankings for mole trapping. Searching using mole trapping, BTMR was the ninth in the list. Using mole catching, BTMR was 5th. Mole trapping and Bristol had www.mole-catcher.co.uk second, BTMR was 4th.. On BTMR it took about 5 clicks to get to the right page and I had to look around to find the links. So is it worth the £75 as the mole-catcher site is free? The mole-catcher site has a much better search using the first half of your post code

Thanks for your help, I will PM you my address for the instructions. I got instructions on the box but not that clear. The weight of the Y frame and the D frame pulls the trigger rod down and springs the trap. The rod is too sensitive and slides down too easily. I placed the ring on the top of the cage and slid the rod into it. Maybe if I closed the ring with pliers I would get more resistance on the rod, or I could bend the tip of the rod slightly or burr it over a bit? Seems a bit iffy

Bought one off the bay of E. Think it might be an older version as it was cheaper. Not sure how to set it. This one differs from the one on the video on you.tube The trap door is in two parts. There is no rod at the base of the feeder. The door folds inwards into the trap. And there is a ring on folding section of the door which is hooked over a vertical rod which connects to the lever frame in the trap. Problem is that the lever slides downwards and releases the door to close because of its weight. so the door does not stay open in the set position. Err what do i do?

Reynard investigating my mole trap!
jackg replied to earth-thrower's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
They are shot in a ring round a bTB outbreak in cattle. Common sense. -
You don't say which shop you use. New Avon In Pill Bristol. Country Pursits in Cricklade. Mark Hazel In Wotton (expensive) Or Good old Litts in Newport (Sportsman)

Only been trying for the past three months, must be the weather. The trap was in a regular place using a skinned squirrel as bait, is this the time of year when this years brood has fledged and is looking for new territory so they are stupid? Actually caught three with a fourth hopping around outside. temped to get the rimfire out for it. Anyone want a call bird in South Glos? One is probably going to a farmer. I had tried everything; Fake nest, cat food, rabbit, pigeon, nothing worked, until today.

Hmm, thanks for your post, tegator. I'll phone to cancel tomorrow if they answer the phone, which they did not previously.

Thinking aabout this it could be a Royal Mail issue as I received a postcard from Royal Mail requiring £1.22 extra postage, 22p actual shortfall, £1 admin charge. I put stamps on the card to that value and posted the card to Royal Mail sorting office and I don't recall anything delivered with excess postage on it but there are two properties at this address and two people with the same initial and surname, so I may haver missed it?

Ordered 5 fox snares from them in May. Queried the delivery and was told on 31/05/2012 that the order has been despatched. Nothing delivered I emailed them yesterday to enquire again and no response. Any comments to help please.

Her daughter is an anti and does not want the foxes harmed in any way. Not too many takers I would imagine. You can't release them so are you expected to keep them as pets?

I have just spoken to an experienced bee keeper who advised me that my plan is a good one. To use FicamD and then to seal using mastic.

Good tip, thanks.

I was called to look at a honey bees colony which took up residence last Saturday, an early swarm, in a roof of a bungalow. A local bee keeper left a nuclei hive on a table nearby to try to tempt the bees into it but without success. I had a look in the attic but neither the nest nor the swarm is there. The only way to access the nest is to lift the tiles and cut through the felt on the end tile or two, which I am not keen on. I suggested destruction as the simplest solution but I will have to seal entrances to the nest to prevent robbing by nearby honey bees. I have read the leaflet:

Thanks for your advice, no I did not boil the snare and I did kneel but onto a pair of criss cross yellow gloves. Could be a badgers then from your comments.

Charlie took a cock last night, or possibly the previous night. There are two chicken houses in the wired run. This cock will not go into either house and stays ontop of the smaller house all night. Most of the hens go into this smaller house and one or two sleep in the larger one for some reason. The hen houses are surrounded by 4 foot high chicken wire which is not dug in that well. See picture of the hole the fox made under the wire: http://www.flickr.com/photos/67356568@N05/7157818870/lightbox/ Mr fox dug the 4-5 inches under one section of the wire to gain access to the run and

I caught 26 Magpies last year in a wooden framed Larsen trap starting with a call bird from a local farmer. I have been trying to catch the first one in this trap, this year, without success. Firstly it was set on the edge of a grass field below a Pear tree where I have seen them regularly and then I moved it down the Cider Orchard, well away from people. Baits tried: 1. Cat food in the compartments and on the top. The cat food went mouldy, nothing went near it. 2. Eggs in a nest of hay in one compartment and an egg broken on the top of the trap. The egg on top dried out, nothing

Thanks for your replies. To clarify the trays are the 6"x4" white plastic ones the bait is red coloured wheat. The trays are on top of the wall or wall plate (the piece of flat wood which supports the bottom of the rafters). So the rubbish has to be raised onto the bait about an inch or inch and a half so it is not accidental by clearing the holes out. I would think it is deliberate. The walls are over 100 years old and the lime mortar does come away and there are lots of cavities in the wall. It could well be mice concealing the bait, I'll have to monitor it and see whether the grains ar

My parents have 8 acre small holding and a house and about 20 feet away from the house are two old pigsties which are used to store wood and house a freezer and can of petrol and tools. The rats come in when the maize two fields over is cut and I set bait on the top of the wall, 4 foot high. Two tray on the field side and the bait is taken by rats and mice but I replenished the trays a couple of days ago and now there is a lot of rubbish on the top of the bat, The rat holes are in the top of the wall about 2 feet from the bait trays and the rubbish includes a lot of small pieces of lime mor

I caught 26 magpies in a larsen trap over the summer, there are still upto six kicking around. I have set the larsen using cat food as bait on top of the trap and in the compartments, have moved the trap around as well, but nothing. Sheep in a field are the attraction or the dung is. Using the same method as the summer, I guess they could be crafty and too smart, but they are still subject to their own stupidity, as we all are. Any tips please.

I had a look on youtube videos and people seem to set them about an inch form the top of the branch and use a beer can as a former to size the snare loop, so I used that which makes it 4" to the top of the snare loop. I set three snares on a horizontal length of hazel which is 3"Ø. So I'll see if they work.
