  1. Norma 50gn Vmax through a CZ527 .223 Hornady 17gn Vmax through a CZ452 .17HMR I haven't got a shotgun but had to select 'other' for it to let me vote. Sorry if it screws your stats. S
  2. Haven't seen the article yet, but doesn't this only apply to knives with a blade over 3 inches? S
  3. Hey Local - I'm doing a recognised course with a local stalker, rather than the DSC1 course. I still have to sit an exam, possibly this weekend...gulp..., and thought learning the answers to the DSC question bank would be good preparation but it seems an answer sheet doesn't exist. It would be useful if someone felt like proving how knowledgable they were by answering all of them (correctly and quickly!) and making them available. On the bright side my variation for my 6.5 x 55 was approved yesterday. :-) Good luck on your course. S
  4. Congrats Westy. Glad to see decent ammo amounts being handed out. I've got my visit tomorrow for my deer rifle variation and asking for it and the other rifles I already have to go on an open ticket. Gulp. Hope I'm as successful as you. Well done again.
  5. been trying to contact these people for about 3 weeks now but they never reply to any messages left so am not sure if they are still trading or not mmm...probably best to avoid. Thanks! S
  6. Looking to be able to do some revision and learning in the process by going through the DSC1 question bank. Although the questions are at http://www.dmq.org.uk/downloads/DSC1%20Wri...uestions%20.pdf, I can't find the answers anywhere so I'm not much further ahead. Does anyone have them/know where they are? TIA S
  7. Does look like a great bit of land and a great read Martin. The golf course I shoot on has all the right quarry on it, and it has short grass on most of it, not covered in cow poo but inconveniently its covered in golfers most of the day. Now on a mission...(to find some land like yours, not do something about the golfers! ) S
  8. You wouldn't want my Border Collie - he just tries ti round everything up!
  9. I've just been looking around for the best deal on one of these and this is the most competitive site I can find...http://www.lamping.co.uk/scopes.htm. Seems to be far cheaper than other sites. Has anyone dealt with them? S
  10. I have a Leupold VXIII 6.5 -20 x 50 on my .223 and it is soooo much better than the £200 AGS scope I have on the HMR. It never loses zero, it is crystal clear and it has a lifetime warranty. I believe the US forces use them too so I guess that is a good recommendation. Good move Bobby. S
  11. My deer course guy said you will never find deer in a wood when there is a high wind as they seem to know it isn't the safest place to be. S
  12. There was me thinking a week under canvas in Holland would keep me away from the forum, but no! Free wifi access over the entire campsite. The downside is I have three fat wood pigeons sat about four feet away from me, taking the p*ss! S
  13. Thanks for the offer of a look see. Does your RWS have a heavier stock than the Tikka then? I'm away for a week so will see how things stand when I get back. Cheers S
  14. eley subs.... Interesting. I use Hornady ammo for mine and when I cleaned mine it contained thick jet black gunk, very different from yours. I guess different powders leave different residues.
  15. thought id open the SAK & give it a clean, was quite surprised how much shit was in it after approx 500 rounds... Out of interest Richie, what ammo have you been using? S
  16. Thanks for all your comments guys. Still not sure whether RWS or Tikka gets my money. Deker, your experiences on the balance of the T3 from the lightness of the stock once a mod is added raises a little worry. I intend using my .30 T8 which I have on my 223. How do you think that will compare weight wise to your Predator 8? The thought of having to do a bit of a bodge job on a brand new rifle to balance it up goes against the grain. But maybe that is the difference between going for a synthetic stock over my usual wooden one? My only concern with the RWS is just that the make does
  17. Excellent! You like the 17 then?
  18. Eeek! Not the one they undoubtedly sacked for shooting that guy the other month?! Hope it's not this one! What was he playing at? http://devel.thisiswiltshire.co.uk/mostpop...he_hand.php?s=s S
  19. Hi Guys - Just applied for a variation for my first deer rifle in 6.5 x 55 and I've also asked for my FAC to be made 'open' at the same time on the basis of my HMR and 223 experiennce so I'm hoping both requests go through smoothly. Do you think they will take experience of the two lower calibres into account and grant the new calibre 'open'? As far as I have managed to discover there are only two models available in this calibre which are left handed, (which I have to have), the RWS Titan 6 and the Tikka T3. Both offer a synthetic stock and stainless barrel which I'm after. Anyone
  20. Useful tip Andy. Talking of animal's reactions, I was out this evening trying to call a fox using the Callmaster. Suddenly the horse in the field behind my permission started snorting and running about. I couldn't see into the his field from my position but was pretty sure a fox had come into his field and he was reacting to it. Unfortunately, the horse's owners then came rushing out from their house to calm their baby, the fox obviously disappeared and they then spotted me and came over to the fence shouting the odds about how my shooting (I hadn't shot anything!) was upsetting the sod
  21. Great one! How long did it take you to paunch that lot? S
  22. Well done Sean - glad things have worked out for you. Hopefully you will gain many years of pleasure from what you have had to fight so hard to obtain. :victory: S
  23. Bought a Reconyx Trail Camera to see what is around on my shoot when I'm not and last night was it's first night in place. I didn't get to go out and shoot any bunny bait last night to bring charlie into shot so I wasnt expecting too much but apart from the usual bunnies, pheasants and rooks having their photos taken I did get a couple of interesting visitors. The farmer was sure there are badgers around (he farms beef cattle so has quite an interest) but having never seen one on his land I haven't been convinced. Guess he was right all along. I'll try and get some bait
  24. My advice would be, whilst being polite and knowledgeable, is to just answer his questions concisely and don't waffle on volunteering unnecessary information which leads to more questions. :secret: S
  25. Really interesting thread guys. You can learn so much hanging around here. S
