  1. I’m the first to admit I don’t dig no where near as much I used to mate but having seen my fair share plus a few others over the years I’m entitled to an opinion you will have to either agree with or call me out on . Anyone that knows me ,of me will know I’m not one to put up with shite of any sort and I ain’t bothered by telling anyone my opinion either unlike some who tick along ,anything for a quiet life . We will have to disagree on this post but in the main you know I’m not a messer ,I just can’t keep quiet when I see something amiss . Ive an enquiring mind for detail in ev
  2. Shot in the head with a .22 lol Edited your post a bit late mate ,I knew you’d f**k up .
  3. From your posts mate ,you seem a fair level headed chap that I’d say does a bit ,could be wrong but based on what I’ve read and others have written you are genuine .Look at that pic and tell me seriously if you think that plumber pushed it tight in clay and never got a speck on it after the weather we’ve had bearing in mind it’s not summer ,or that fox was shot in a hole. Close range with a shotgun leaves a 2 inch entry hole which is missing no matter where it was shot .A bullet does not create exit like that . It may seem I have it in for him or plumbers but nothing of the sort just bull
  4. This pic just confirmed what I thought ,thanks .Im guessing as before ,you bushed it ,someone shot it and you thought you’d get away with a write up on digging it lol. Your area never escaped the recent rains nor the snow ,we’ve not had a droubt so no clay substrate will be dry enough to not stain a dog that pushed in tight . I nearly waivered until I saw the pic of dog from above . You have proved yourself an unreliable poster ,not only letting the whole of the thl down but seriously letting yourself down . Tell us how you came to shoot it in the hole that resulted i
  5. By the look of the ground the top soil is loamy so the substrate will be loamy clay or chalk and I see neither on the legs or back of that dog that pushed in tight so do we just except bullshit because that pics stinks of it . Seen enough to know shite when I see and read it and not for the first time either .
  6. Just because you fell over and got your knees dirty doesn’t mean I have to fall for the dog going to ground . White footed dog squeezes into a tight place yet comes out like a persil advert . An observer would say that fox was shot with a shotgun on the move ,then both dogs were unboxed for a pic .
  7. Bit sensitive aren’t we .Just an observation .
  8. Did you put carpet down in hole for bitch to work on ?
  9. But could you say the same from non descript breedings that also once worked .I know what you are saying Glyn but the same old boys advocated working a dog hard ,kill him and use his non working brother as a stud lol.Id rather things ticked along from generation to generation with no room for guessing and so I think would you .
  10. You should never wait until the line shows signs of being too close as you are already on the downward slope and don’t use an out cross that is too far from your own type or you may undo all you have strived for . My own breeding experience included a mate who started with similar breeding to my own ,even used my first stud dog but bred to the Nuttal side rather than the Wheeler that I preferred . He maintained the size using a son of my Razor,a bull headed Nuttal type dog to all intents and purposes called Sand .Subsequent breedings were up and down within his type ,not my style but
  11. You don’t need to breed every year either mate .Only when needs must and if your stock is getting on a bit then needs must ,if a few decent mates want one then needs must but to breed every year isnt necessary at all IMO
  12. Could be said that to find your best producers you need to breed ,test then breed some more .Once the ingredience are there then it’s time to breed selectively and with a goal in mind .Which brings us back to good mates and trust ,an issue that seems greater than just breeding the right stuff .
  13. I agree totally with you mate .Ive always put best to best IMO but looking back there have been a few that maybe should have had a litter .No regrets on dogs used at all just a few bitches I never lined .
  14. It’s not until you read posts like the last half dozen or so that you start to think about those terriers you never bred which maybe should of had a chance but all too late now .Good steady digging dogs ain’t mediocre either ,they are what we strive for .Those that supposedly shine ,probably do so for other reasons than digging ie just a good dog to have around ,breed decent stuff but we subconsciously link it all to digging .If it stays to be dug to time after time ,then any dog shines in my book .
  15. This is where we might once again differ Mort .An out and out bayer that rarely gets bit but can kill a fox if it doesn’t bolt .I d sincerely like to see that animal and the fox it’s accounted for .Invite me out mate ,a sincere offer with no preconceptions . You would be wise to use that dog over your stock mate ,they are like hens teeth .
  16. Same mate .The soil location or other type of habitat doesn’t seem to matter with a regular fox killer ,that’s what they live for . Years ago now with the bitch I have in mind, we were running dogs through old cable ducts on a deserted Air Force camp near me ,now built on .The foxes would bolt from some impossible tight place if they could get away ,couple of missing bricks in a wall or a lifted floor board and often jump out of broken glass in windows to freedom .The ducts ran between building and had concrete slab tops . Some of these ducts however went nowhere to dead ends possibly to
  17. You’ve met our chippy then lol. Agreed mate but would you say a bayer has any chance to kill a fox or in your opinion does it take a certain reckless type or have you never owned one .
  18. Whilst fox killing is not that difficult for a terrier that finds the knack I’m struggling to see how a baying type would ever get the chance to find out .ive owned my share of dispatchers and each and everyone started off their careers a bit on the reckless side .Might be different with other types but that’s my experience .Killing the fox is one thing but staying with it to be dug to also requires a certain type ,those with 100% commitment I’ve found .Ive only owned one that killed a fox then walked .Ive never worked rocks and I’m glad we don’t have any here ,frighten me to death tbh but to
  19. Some groups were seen to be lead down in cover necks outstretched but I never saw this .Bumped quite a few in rushes though unseen .
  20. He’s not bad mate ,debating whether or not to get it shoulder mount .Master bucks everywhere in groups now . Could of shot 15 or so but they are strictly off the list with a hefty fine to follow .Been a lot of forestry work thinning in places where I’ve found them before and the huge parties we’ve seen previous were split into smaller groups and hidden .Lost loads over the boundary in one area but that’s just the way it is .
  21. Well the numbers were right down this year but we were up against last years hide and seek champions that have definitely remembered and learnt from the approach of trucks delivering rifles to to seats and the sound of a quad bike .Instead of standing out the middle of fields or running blindly from cover to cover , this year they found dense cover and lead down .I was on the quad and never got a shot til lunchtime . A young doe stopped too long at a fence line Onward to another patch of cover and met with maybe 40 does leaving cover moved by a marshall . Managed another youngster
  22. Found it best to ring ahead of any returns and explain it won’t end well if they ignore any issues . They don’t have the monopoly but other stuff not dedicated for use . They lost my old green box then denied I ever sent it back but after a few calls they found it ,deemed it unserviceable and GAVE me the then new red box which astounded me to be honest . Just need to persevere .
