    Vets are as guilty of overprescribing as some are of using it .Its a quick fix without addressing any underlying causes and most vets won’t refuse its use because it’s a quick earner .

    We have ,or rather some have become reliant on treating the symptoms rather than the cause . Overuse causes the body to fight the antibiotic when required in cases where it’s needed . lve tried to educate many a terrierman into not reaching for the antibiotics whenever the dog has had a scrape .For me they are a last resort when the infection becomes too much for the dogs body to cope with which in 35 years has been twice .Infection in the ear requires one of two things ,foreign bodies or parasites the latter which create ideal conditions for bacteria growth if left untreated .Build

    Because ear infections are typically caused by multiple organisms mate and antibiotics can lead to a worsening case .The conditions bacteria thrive in can be caused by a number of issues . The underlying cause needs treating or reoccurrence is inevitable .Antibiotics do not kill mites or tackle foreign bodies . You internet warriors need to get a bit savvy on dog welfare not chuck antibiotics at everything .The more I read on here the more I think I’m glad I’m nearly done with it .
