    First Bird Dilemma

Jj Since you are asking for opinions. I would go for a male gos, will do all and much more.this is based on what you have posted. i would leave the pigeon alone, you will just end up spending all you time looking for your bird and I would say it would spoil the whole thing for you. Ram your head with knowledge and have fun
  4. get with the post mate ...... Ok, I'll get with the post, the post says 'heavy', well lets face it, no heavy (as in weight) can catch much at all. As for first crosses, well run at the right weight and they'll do the job, week in week out. Take the Pie dog as an example, as it's blood is so frequently mentioned in your dogs make up. The pic that has been posted on here, taken in Scotland, did that look too heavy to catch foxes, he was a genuine half cross? Well if he 'looks' capable, then i'll tell you he was capable, run at the right weight, that pic was taken when he was with one o
  5. try balsamic vinegar. 5 parts water 1 part balsamic vinegar, use a small mixing bowl, and your other halfs flannel ,ring it out and rub the dog down,i geuss i ring it out about 5 times.the dog will smell of vinegar for about a day but then you get no smell at all. cleans the coat, makes it shine and makes any unwanted hoasts leave because the dont like the acidity
  6. As someone else previously said,"sounds typical". I have to agree. I have kept several, many yr ago & wouldn't go back there again. I see where your coming from, when you say you won't let him go to a home with kids, but we all know of the broken promises which new owners will fill you with............until they get the dog. Who is to say he won't get passed on again & whose kid will he (possibly) take an offence to,next time ? Your obviously attached to the wee fella, but do you really want to pass on your problems to someone else & possibly have something come back to haunt you in

  15. I think you're dead right DAZ! when I first started breeding my peregrines I was weighing them every few days, a guy told me that whatever the bird weighs at 30 days is roughly its flying weight! it turns out he was miles out mate... there's alot of differnt things I suppose we all have to take into account, different falconers fly there birds to a condition that they feel the birds hunts best at, some falconers may get a bird flying at a good high weight with alot of fittness and time yet a weekend warrior would probably have to have his bird flying alot less due to its Metabolism and fit
  16. tidy horris.mine was 840g 35 days old he was 890g 30 days old and flew last season at 730g,so the 30 day thing never aplied here.not that i am saying its right or wrong oh and he started his gob at 43 days how are you feeding him mate as i never seen food in the pics just intrested. thanks daz
