  8. well said dev people do hav different standards but great dogs are few and far between
  9. just coz people are from ireland doesnt mean there dogs are better they are plenty of people from scotland have good dogs just as good as the ones in ireland will be the same in england and wales there are good and bad dogs everywhere the same goes for dog men and breeders
  10. IN 11 SEASONS OF DIGGING IV E ONLY LET THE TERRIERS HAVE A RAG ONCE OR TWICE,POINT BEING IS THE EARTHDOG NEEDS TO GET IT INTO HIS HEAD THAT HIS JOB IS IN THE GROUND.PERSONALLY I THINK IT ENCOURAGES DOGS TO LEAVE QUARRY IN A HOLE AND COME OUT IN CASE ITS MISSING SOMETHING,DIFFERENT WAYS BUT I GUESS THATS WHY WE IRISH HAVE BETTER DOGS NOWADAYS
  11. i would agree with that zap a dog has maybe worked its bollocks off for a few hours to get you a fox it deserves a rag at the end
  12. i bought the new deben finder not the long range one and had nothing but trouble with it sent it back they said tyhere was nothing wrong with it so i got it back next dig it said 7 foot it was only 3 phoned them up they told me the transmittor on the collar has to be on the underside of the dogs neck as soon as it slides round the dogs neck it is way off which isnt practical every time a dog is underground the collar is transmittor is going to move it is absouloute rubbish im now using the mark 1 again how can a company bring a new locatoer out that is worse than the last one that was out 15 y
  13. there is a touch of middleton in mine im hopefully getting a pup from a litter later on in the year that are john cowan strain meant to be very hard and game dogs a lot of people slate middleton now say he dosent work them just shows them i couldnt tell you if thats true or not
  14. i never said anything bout 100% litters so dont no where yous are getting that from any pup i hav raised and schooled myself has worked for me maybe not up to your high standards sometimes just a nice steady bayer others too hard for there own good
  15. i wouldnt have anything else than a lakie unless i was short on terriers like i am just now there good strong earth dogs usaully with desent heads on them somtimes they can hav a mind of there own but any one i have owned always gave me a 110% and never let me down as long as they are from working parents and get the right schooling then they wil;l be fine
  16. i had a patterdale got it for my mum when my dad died he was a did a little work then he started growling at the gran kids when they where round then if i gave him into trouble he started going for me it was as if he was losing his mind in the end up no one could go near him in the end up we had to get him put down this was all in the space of a couple of months before that he was a loving wee dogin the end he wasnt right mentally
  17. thanks for the pm,s still looking
  18. hi there no this is proparly a long shot at this time of year but im looking for a working terrier something that will stay till dug to doesnt have to be the hardest dog in the world just something that stays would prefer a lakeland type will consider anythingim in scotland and am willing to travel 300 miles ive only got one terrier at the moment and im finding myself a bit short handed im hopefully getting a pup later on in the year but i really could do with another adult just now good money for the right dog thanks
  19. i agree with you to nobody wants to wipe anything out my point is a keeper that allows a population of foxes on his shoot isnt doing a good job espeicilly on a wild bird shoot or a grouse moor all the vixen and dog fox is going to do is kill nesting gamebirds to feed their growing family then maybe in the summer when the cubs have left their parents one of them will maybe get into your keepers friend release pen he will maybe lose a hundred poults plus in one night then he will maybe think back and say i wish those guys had done away with those cubs a family of foxes will reek havoc on a shoot
  20. as i said before only a bad keeper would have cubs on his shoot and let them live and im sure if the keeper new that you were doing that he wouldnt be amused
  21. im only looking at it from a keepers point of veiw
