There my mates own stuff , stuff he bred himself over the last 30 years . Started off with a trial Wheaton I believe and smooth red fell and just bred everything back into itself over the years. Very very good animals . They would be very tightly bred.

Ireland varies a lot. Could be fine rabbit sand in one spot and 2 mile down the road be peat. Certain areas be a majority of one or the other if you know what I mean but around me there’s a savage mix of soil.

Same as every where mate . Ground changes from place to place . I’ve Earth that are peat bog you’d dig with a spoon, sand earths, gravel earth, stoney earths , clay earths and undiggable earths . It depends on how much hardship or risk you want

Last time I checked rain didn’t soften rock, slag, or gravel soft and hard ground everywhere

It all revolves around schooling horses now and getting the mileage up on them to sell them. They have no interest in hunting. That being said each to their own without the horse industry there would be no hunting , they go hand in hand that’s there thing. There can’t be one without the other. One time though a horse was just means to follow the hounds. But I guess times change. That’s long before a lot of us were born. Don’t think hunts have been like that in 70+ years being truthfull.

He could do . Children’s meet he’s the huntsman , loves it . Not many about like him . A lot of them seem to think good days and lots of jumping just happens . Good hounds make good hunts.

He’s a grand younglad. Good hardy younglad . Great horseman , started coming with my to marks when out hunting , now he has the bug. Hopefully he stays at it. He’s getting a decent start

Thanks mate. I don’t post much on here anymore but no harm posting the odd story of a good day and keep the pictures sensible. Also I meant to say in original post all credit goes to the dogs, there not mine there my mates. Absolutely Top class. I’m on the verge of leaving the black stuff behind and filling the place with his stuff . he left a 6 month old bitch up with us fair play to him. A younglad 15 starting to get into it he does come with me when he can . My mate said he’d give him a good start with a proper bitch to help him get going. lol I wish I had that help at the start instead of

A great weekend with A good pair of friends who come up for a couple weekends hunting every year to me. Started off Friday checked the first earth , very well ran however a promising young dog with 7/8 digs under his belt said no, tried a more experienced bitch. She also said no so that was good enough for us he wasn’t in it but not far away. Went across the road checked another one on the same farm he wasn’t in it but down the ditch we checked an earth I never got game out of before and sure enough it was holding. Lovely digging at 1.0m out the flat of the field . 1 accounted for. Up the road

sionnach99 replied to sionnach99's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Cheers thanks -
Ah I grew up being told to enjoy it while it lasts off lads older than me reckoning they’ve done it all and seen it al and it’s no good anymore , I’ve more than my fair share done. I don’t listen to the negativity anymore just enjoy my hunting. It’ll last as long as it does. Your head would be melted if you were to listen to everyone.

I’m living the dream couldn’t ask for anything better. Keep your head down your mouth shut and look after eachother. All you can do.

Must be a different setup in England. I do the terrierwork for a mounted pack here and have done now for a number of seasons, and we’re all like family. I got into riding a few years back now and don’t own my own horse and a couple of members numerous times have given me a horse for free absolutely delighted to see me up on a horse. Ride up front and for free. Hunt ball tickets given to me every year. Free feed for my dogs. It’s my life and I wouldn’t talk bad about it one bit. From washing out kennels, walking hounds , going to hound shows, autumn hunting , and hunting. It’s a full way of lif

It will be banned here to but it doesn’t really matter. Everyone will still hunt here. There’s no public footpaths. Much more rural and farmers are on our side. Have permission keep things right and look after the farmers and there’s not much can be done. We haven’t enough Gardai in towns and cities to police things don’t mind out the country . Garda stations closed down in every village in the country. Worse things going on in the world than a bit of hunting. It will die out on its own before then anyway cause no young people are arsed with it anymore all they want is go to college take a Hap
