Just read in the latest edition of "Pest" (if you don't get it - go to www.pestmagazine.co.uk - its FREE) About a wasp nest removal man being convicted of manslaughter in Switzerland!! While dealing with a nest and trying to remove off a friends balcony, wasps attacked an elderly couple on another balcony resulting in the husband dying from anaphylattic shock 2 days later. So I guess, the morale is always informing neighbours of your intent. and if treating a nest near a pavement/walkway then do late in evening and then cordon off, As soon as a pestie either dusts/sprays/removes
-
People see wasps, they panic, they call the well-known R company, happy at the time to pay due to fear. Bet loads of people pay it without question, and even if they do then check with a local pestie who charges £50. Some will think the local chap must be a cowboy only changing a quarter of the price, IMO

Squirrel number 4 now, taken with the Procull with my home made box cover and tied to tree. Getting there

Thought you would have shaved before posting a selfie Phil!!

Or melt chocolate on to the plate

Yes, got one wcs in the gutter (caught 2 so far) and a procull on other side of roof. All have smooth peanut butter
-
Finally getting somewhere now!! 3 squirrels down. 2 have been in the wcs tube and another in the procull. Unfortunately, the tube one was a foul catch, had caught it by the back leg, but soon dispatched. Never had a foul catch before,
-
Cottage is very overgrown, have cleared tree branches so there is a no easy overhang for the squirrels.
-
16th May til now and finally caught the first squirrel in a wcs tube Normally they just run into a trap and easy to catch, Wonder why it has taken so long

Does it work well on red ants, which are Not generally sugar loving ants?
-
How do you deal with red ants? Got them outside at home, they are destroying my lavender and aubretia plants by nesting in the root system. Over last 2 years have tried to dig out them out only for some others to return. Have also tried petrol - fun but does not get them deep down Gels seem not to work, as reds I believe are primarily protein eaters and not sugar like the black ants. Limited success with Ficam W, as nests are way down deep and plentiful. Dust would get wet. Any miracle solutions, please?

Great having this info to hand, have been telling lots of people the life cycle and why the bumbles are so active. They feel reassured, the bees remain alive and well, but no money for me, oh well
-
Hi everyone, Got a bumble bee question. Got called to a bumble bee job yesterday, I explained on the phone before going all about how nice they are, probably won't sting, nice to have wildlife in the garden, they are in short supply etc to hopefully keep the bees. When I got to the job, I could see why they wanted rid of, they were just above the "al fresco" dining area and about 50 were buzzing about, occasionally one would go into a small hole. No access to roof, no way of taking nest away. So reluctantly had to destroy using Ficam D (for wild bees) been back today

Help! I Need Crows Shooting - Oswestry
Gravy replied to eezy's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
So you know what time this happens every day,! You have an air rifle! Go and get said gun checked/serviced at the local gun store, so you know it shoots straight and legal. Crow starts tapping, assuming you have an upstairs, open window and shoot down or go outside quietly and shoot from the side. Job Done. If you need me to carry out the task, £1000 should cover my daily fee -
So now have 2 x WCS tube traps placed in the roof gutter, baited with peanut butter to hopefully intercept the squirrels, also have a elgeeco live catch peanut feeder on tree.
-
Well no catches of Mink over last few weeks, guess no mink about, certainly no fresh evidence seen by me or owner
-
There are power cables going through the trees on the same side as squirrels and photo, so do not want to cut these myself. Have ordered a live trap elgeeco squirrel trap which I will hang off guttering where have seen the squirrels - see if this helps. Any one using these? reports I read seem promising it may be one of those jobs, I thought would be easy but proving difficult and in the end actually cost me money. Oh well win most, lose occasionally
-
But how? there is no access from inside, the squirrels are between the tiles and ceiling, owners say they can hear scampering noises all over.
-
I like this idea, have now placed a feeder in garden, will see what happens

chocolate/hazelnut smooth paste

Hi, Can I ask about placing squirrel traps please? For the last 5 days have trying to trap a family of squirrels at a remote cottage in some woods, Have to walk to the cottage as no road to it.. The owners hear noises at night, there is no loft as such, squirrels are between tiles and ceiling, no where to safely put warfarin bait The banks around cottage are very steep 45 degree, numerous tree branches give squirrels an easy way to roof. Have recommended cutting back the vegetation, which will be done. They do not feed the birds, so no where in garden to trap, owners do not see
