  1. This is latest Quickload results with accurate H20 figures. I also tweaked the case length slightly. Comments welcome DH, or others, as I'm going to go with this load I think. I'm happy with a 95g bullet at almost 3100fps! That's got to be a hard hitting round.
  2. Tried contacting DL, but he can't get anymore PM's. Is he still selling lamps?
  3. This wee chap DL? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162189675957
  4. Hi Peter, Good spot - for my rifle its a bit under that @ 2.689, which I've found to be the optimum length overall. I've also adjusted the case length to 2.035 trimmed. I've re-run the calcs and for 43g of H414, its 99.36% powder burn and 25.5% ballistic efficiency, with muzzle velocity up to 3105fps. Pmax is 58685, therefore its still safe. Starting to get the hang of Quickload, and cant thank you enough for assistance. I'm delighted with 3100fps on a 95g BL bullet. ps: H20: using 53 instead it racks up the pressure beyond the safe margin - I'll need to research this particula
  5. Peter, thinking of going with H414 as the velocity figures look good. Could you have a shifty at the following:
  6. Thought I'd give the reloder 16 a bash, but struggling to get it I'm afraid. The only one I can get a hold of is reloder 15.
  7. Cheers Peter, I've actually got a copy of Quickloader now, and will have a look at the above. Your second suggestion looks like a more efficient load. Appreciate you taking time to do this. I'LL report back. ATB
  8. Thanks for the comprehensive reply DH. I have to confess that I've only ever used the Lee manual for guidance on loads. For a 95g round, it has the "never exceed" load for H414 powder as 42g, therefore the figures you quote from Quickload would appear to be quite different? I'm obviously keen to improve what I'm doing and would appreciate a bit more information on where your figures are from? Thanks in advance. ATB
  9. I've been reloading for years using H414 powder, with .243 95g ballistic tip bullets at max load of 42g, with pretty consistent results. I'm about to buy another tub of powder, and wonder if anyone else has experience with any other powder? Or recommendations? Always trying to improve what I'm using. Incidentally, the Nosler silver tip (balistic tip) rounds are the dogs do dah's! Highly recommend them.
  10. Thought I'd add to this as I've been moving the Photon around as the rounds weren't ejecting cleanly. I had to move to the last notch on the rail so the rounds ejected cleanly. The picture possibly illustrates better than words the repeatability of using a good mount on a Picatinny rail. It may assist others using this mounting method: Target was 100M, with rifle on a Primos tripod & 2 point rifle rest.
  11. 5 Cheers Andy, I've seen the utube review, but was hoping more for a comparison with traditional lamps eg; Lightforce etc
  12. How about a detailed video or demo? Like the sound of the sabre, but what's the capability v other units? Utube demo or review would be great?
  13. Advice from any torch experts looking in please: My mate won't move from traditional lamping to NV, and is looking for something from the new LED / Cree type torches thats on par with a Lightforce 170, but obviously smaller, compact & hopefully do away with large battery packs. Distance is critical here, as we shoot over large / extensive fields. Advice anyone? ATB
  14. I've just purchased a TR50 IR from LL, for use on a hand held, and wonder what the capabilities are of these torches against say a lightforce conventional lamp, with the correct pill etc. Also I notice LL sell difference beam size pills, and idea which one is best for general lamping? PS thank you Ian, purchased on your recommendation, looks a great bit of kit and very similar to my NM800. The NM looks a bit more compact with what looks like a better spherical lens.
  15. Remember when you adjust the Photon, it works the opposite to a normal scope. You move the cross hairs to the POI (Point of Impact) on the target. In other words, aim at the centre of the target, don't move the rifle, then check where the shot is on the target, then move the Photon cross hairs to the POI - then remember to save the settings. Its all in the manual.
  16. Thought I'd add some more tuppenceworth to this much discussed topic: My Photon is now pretty much 100% using a 0 MOA Picatinny rail and a dedicated Photon mount from Yukon. I have a couple of observations however: The Photon naturally sits quite high, and whilst this wouldn't normally be a problem, the adjustment range is quite limited @ 30 clicks on both X & Y axis, hence some folk run into problems when zeroing. There simply isn't enough adjustment to lower the scope if it's mounted too high. Even using the dedicated mount, my vertical axis is way out at 24 clicks, which
  17. I think this is the same unit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361366809593 Chinese import re-badged by Sure?
  18. Now my rifle NV is up and running, I'm now looking for a half decent NV monocular and IR for spotting. I seen this unit which gets decent reviews, but if anyone can advise or link to comparisons that'd be great: http://www.sure24.co.uk/sure-nvwg50-digital-night-vision-6-x-50-monocular.html?utm_source=NV%20FORUM&utm_medium=Banner2&utm_campaign=NVFORUM#product-tabs3
  19. thank you Lamp , but i have another problem : i have 11mm rail becuase i will use my photon on CZ455 and i don't want to buy another ring + rail becuase too expensive , but please post you pictures i like to see other solution thanks Have a look at other thread. Pics on there. IMO cheaper rails and mounts = alignment problems mate. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/360492-photon-with-qr-mounts/?do=findComment&comment=4295729
  20. Ok so final results... Pictaninny rail & Yukon Sw30 one piece mount/rings: Total cost was £49 for the Picatinny rail, £60 for the Photon mount. So how easy was it to zero? Having read about horror stories, I was dreading what might unfold! However, pleasantly surprised at how easy it was! Fitting the rail & scope took around an hour, then I boresighted the scope in my garden at 25M, which only took 10 minutes. Out to my shoot to fine tune the scope @ 100M, and this was the results: 3 rounds to zero the scope, which is pretty good I'd say.
  21. From my own recent experience & investigations into the same issue, the consistent advice I'm getting is to use a Picatinny rail and the one piece mount made by Photon. I've decided to convert my M595 over to a Picatinny rail & dedicated Photon mount. Both are getting delivered today, and I'll post a pic when I can. Photons have 30 plus clicks and each click value is 17mm at 100yds, which equates to just over 0.5M adjustment available @ 100 Yds, therefore I'd think this points to the mounts being well out? Other option is using a + MOA rail, but I don't think it's ideal. S
  22. Well I've ran into problem no 1.... The 30mm mounting area between the inside of the rings is 5/8" smaller than the available space on the Photon, therefore my grand idea of using Leupold QR has hit the stops! Unless these extended rings would work; http://www.uttings.co.uk/p103657-leupold-quick-release-extension-rings/#.V78aGOjTW2d The distance between the rings is 5/8" too short, however, the extended rings can be used to lengthen or shorten by 5/8". Tight but as one end of the Photon is rubber, it may just be ok....? Failing the extension rings, may have to
