Just get a dog thats meant for bushing. All these other types i wouldnt bother with... stick with what works for others. Spaniel springer or cocker. Or a cocker patt. Springer patt ect. Sprocker russell the list goes on

What other types wouldn't you bother with? Beagle spaniels? They are spoken highly of by the lads who've seen them graft.

Depends on the land i guess, if your hunting vast land / hills then yeah a beagle x would be better but if i was looking for something to stay close i would leave the beagle out , i wouldnt want chance having beagle blood places i hunt just incase they did range to far

The reason i thort a terrier would do well as the covers id work are quite small and tight but after a think i dont need a dog that keeps going to ground

Spaniel terrier x's still have the urge to drop! I've lost mine to ground a few times and had to sit and wait until she pops out and grab her which isn't ideal while bushing!

  2. Above 2 piece was made with M20 nut welded to the top of a 4mm walled tube. M20 bolt with the head chopped off welded inside the upper tube. Screw together...weld the T handle on square. Drill straight through the joint a 4mm hole, find a capscrew the right length to lock the whole thing up to stop twisting and dig...no twist.. strong as a Ox. Job done! No frills tool that does the job. I'm no welder before any of the pro's chirp up about weld spatter and the usual sh*t !

  3. Stan will be 5 month old next week, he is growing well, eats anything out in front of himattachicon.gifIMG_3232.JPG

Looks a big pup in that picture mate!! What size is he at now? Mines growing a lot slower now, creeping just over 20" i'd be surprised if he makes much more than 22" which isn't a bad thing his drive is sky high for a young pup !

  4. Now 9 months old and I've got his sister also ( gifted to me by brenner because of personal matters ) both have been started on the lamp and are doing well, they are both 20/21" tts , plenty of speed and are very gamey.

Joeb8866- I'll keep posting a few updates over the following months

19 weeks old and around 21.5ttsattachicon.gifIMG_3192.JPG

Very nice mate fair play. He's slightly taller than mine as he's growing but that's to be expected with the breeding in mine being slightly different, But very similar. My camera is bust so the only time i can get photos is at home with the Mrs phone.. he does leave the house honest ;) haha.

    Atb with him !

As far as butter the way they should be looks like he has a nice head on him

Yeah he could be a lot worse! Piling the grub into him now to try and get him to his full potential size. Chicken wings, fatty beef mince top quality dry food and plenty of raw on different days too ! he does alright ! Nice head yeah, Works out 3/8 bull i think i'm crap with the percentages !

  7. Couldn't say i have a dog of this exact make up but he has Saluki Bull & Grey in along with a couple of others. Almost 5 months old and he's coming on soundly, showing small signs of Independence already, First real time in forestry blocks for him last weekend and showed signs of wanting to hunt up with the older dogs. Fingers legs and toes cross for next season for him ha!

JCM - It'll be interesting to see how they both progress into next season as they're only a few weeks different in age i think !

ATB with him he looks a belter!

  8. My pup is 6 months old in a week or so and I can't believe where the time has gone since he was only 8 weeks. He's doing well and growing and filling out quickly, jumping and retrieving are improving and he's good around other dogs, birds and livestock.I've been getting him out around a friends hawks to get him steady with them and it's going well with no problems so far.

What sort of height is he made by 6 months mate? Is my memory right thinking he's bull/whippet? Fancy this type myself once my pup i've got on go now is up and running in 12 months or so!

  9. Odd you boys say that, I know she's no runner but my young cocker/terrier bitch is smack on in closed fields with stock wont even look at them . Weekend just gone out on open hill she took a B line for one of last years lambs running it to the ground about 600 meters across open ground before i could get to her! I wouldn't have had a leg to stand on if the stock owner happened to be watching! Wont make that mistake twice that's for sure! E Collar back on for a refresher course i think.
