Well you learn something new every day - I always thought of Muntjac as timid hiders.

Cornered they will give it there all , which can be a big all ...and see what two bucks can do to each other ..

I was walking along an overgrown disused road one night at about 1am. Me and a friend had rifles and nv. A Muntjac barked in the copse about 2mtrs away from us.

My mate nearly shat himself, I fell about laughing.

I'll be a bit more wary next time.

We see them quite often when we're out.

  2. I fitted an ox square section spring to a rws 52 and it was like shooting a pogo stick and it was hot even after a lot of trimming. I fitted their ultra premium kit with ptfe spring guides afterwards and it was a lot better and very consistent.

Never tried an Ox but, I've heard they can add a lot of power and be difficult to tame.

  3. Hmmm :hmm: cheers Tom.

They are also advertising a third spring for the same job,- a Titan spring ?

    Thoughts please lads ?

Titan springs seem good Mark

..... well engineered and treated if the sales blurb is accurate.

I put one in my TX about 1500 shots ago and its doing well. There's nothing wrong with my AA spring - I just like to experiment.

Also, I know a good man who swears by red rubber grease on the spring. He has warned me to use it sparingly though as it can push up the fps.

  4. I'm same Jon Jon love the look of the 98 like the stock shrouded barrel heavy like the 80 like the look of that sfs imp aswell though bit lighter for lugging about atb

They're nice to shoulder. The stippling on the grip and under the fore end seem to be in the perfect place.

Plus I do like heavy springers.

  5. might have to give the hornets a blast jon

been out this morning the weather was sh!te so i didn't hang about long but the accupels dropped a crow no prob at about 40yrd

first time I've ever used them for hunting!

take a few out of the tin and give them a light spray of oil.. see if it makes any difference

    atb si

Cheers Si, I'll give that a whirl

These hornets are nasty little things with their brass tips. They'd be devastating if they were more accurate. I've tried both calibres in a fair few rifles and, they're usually all over the place.

But, this S10 seems to have a few surprises for me. I'll try them at different ranges and see how they get on :)

  6. The real surprise of the morning was these ......H&N Hornet. They've always been shite in anything I've tested them in, .177 & .22 (Apart from a .177 Edgun Lelya).

I wanted to test Polymags but, they won't cycle in the mag because of their length.

These Hornets did well at 28yrds and, they drilled right through nearly 3" of brochures and into a breeze block wall behind.

  7. I popped back into my favourite RFD for something to cover my hands and face while out hunting squirrel and pigeon.

While I was there, I got talking to Paul, he runs the place and is a really good bloke. Anyway, it turns out that one of his favourite hunting tools is a .22 S10. As well as giving me the recent service sheet for my S10, he also recommended trying Accupells.

Until now, I'd tried AA Field, JSB Exact and JSB RS. RS giving the best accuracy and grouping over various distances........

(Apologies for the poor quality pics)

FLASK OF HOT COFFEE OR TEA

OR SOME THING STRONGER IF YOUR NOT DRIVING

    ATVBMAC

Ah yes, a wee snifter to warm the cockles. My grandad swore by his old hip flask. I remember sharing a nip of his brandy when I went with him to check his snares one January morning. I think I was about 8yrs old :laugh:

I don't do do very well with alcohol in the cold - I'd be leaving scent marks around my permission all night

my nan use to give me brandy and warm water when i was a kid to make me puke!!

its ruined me for nights out now :bad:

I remember it made me shudder and made grandad laugh :D
