  1. Did ya get sorted with a marking hound yet ?
  2. Good tv, would like to see more like it. Can anyone tell me what the scarteen hunt are like these days ? Are they worth a look ?
  3. Are buzzards taking pheasants in anyone's area ?
  4. Saw a few old English x welsh and thought a lot of them. Also saw a few welsh x beagles many years ago, they had fabulous noses.
  5. 99% of gun clubs are a waste of time. A few lads at the top are more interested in keeping people away from joining the club's even if they can shoot the permission anyway. They wouldn't do any vermin control or feed birds and generally shoot very little anyway. You hear them blaming foxes for lack of birds the whole time and the buzzards magpies and grewcrows swarming around them.BRAINLESS.
  6. From Ireland very south of the country are the welsh/harriers good at a mark fellas ?
  7. Hearing a lot of shooters say pheasants are scarce this year ? Just wondering if this is the case and why ?
  8. I have my opinions about the merits of beagle crosses for foxhunting before and it didn't go down well at all. All we hunt is harriers on hare only but I watch a lot of foxhunting and often wondered what foxhound type was the best. What do you cross the Welsh with ?
  9. What breed of hound is the most natural all rounder in your opinion fellas? I mean to search, find hunt & mark?
  10. It wouldn't be a good idea to buy a marking hound, very little people sell a genuine marker. You'll end up buying shite.as regards harriers marking, well they just don't really don it. The question is what is the best choice of hound to bring on to mark for you ?
  11. Good cross, very hardy like a lot of crosses, most will not have the voice of the harrier, some make good markers, like anything they're hit and miss but a lot of people don't cross them because they don't like to breed further than a half cross and then you can't breed further out of them.
  12. good footage, well done bunnyboiler. irishfoxhunter obviously didnt enjoy it, i think its lovely to see old footage like that. i know of a lot of footpacks that their doghounds wouldnt draw due to being bred too big and cumbersum. and there is a lot to be said for a small unfashionable footpack but a lot of footpacks today are breeding for looks and size and forgetting about hunting ability. when you see a pack with different sizes and hounds that would be too ugly to show then somebody is breeding for hunting.
  13. all harriers for hare, i laugh sometimes when i hear lads saying that foxhounds are better to draw and find than harriers.
  14. you just have to keep what does it for you, no point in keeping something other people like if your not happy yourself ? Never seen a pack of full harriers really good to mark but they could be out there
  15. well we have a large enough pack but a lot of packs you look at only have a handful of good hounds anyway
  16. which do you find better to mark or better to hunt, the beagle or harrier x beagle ? what breeding is in the boy in the picture?
  17. what are the pack like to hunt, any good to mark ?
  18. ive 4 and a half couple in kennels at minute plus litter of pups with bit of luck they will work out do you get good hunting or much results with the hounds ? often thought lads could keep a smaller pack and get it every bit as good
  19. having seen some good fell hounds on open country and farmland i would be stunned if a terrier kept up for any length of time, then stunned you would be ................lot of the good fell packs used to do itchrist they must be slow hounds ,we have a pack of beagles and beagle x harriers and a terrier can't even keep up with them what do yas hunt with your pack, fox or hare ?
  20. having seen some good fell hounds on open country and farmland i would be stunned if a terrier kept up for any length of time, then stunned you would be ................lot of the good fell packs used to do it
  21. i cant understand people who expect foxhounds to be better to draw than harriers, if your harriers aint drawing then you have the wrong type. Nothing wrong with a mixed pack, i seen lads in open country hunt terriers with fell hounds and foxhounds and the terriers were up to them to go to ground when it ran in, believe me beagles will be there or thereabouts when hunting with foxhounds.
  22. That sounds bang on Derek. We hunt the purest of harriers, thats our thing but i would say nothing is as steady on a line as good beagles, yeah if your into sound foxhounds are a no no.
