  1. awen, don't know how far you have come with this project, but here's what you do. contact a reputable breeder and ask if he will be prepared to sell you a dog and board the dog for you. a great vet to help with the process is dr. elizabeth neve, of AAHVET in Pozuelo, Madrid. I have used her myself. your alano pup needs a microchip before it has a rabies vaccine and needs to be 12 weeks old for that then you need to wait 30 days before the blood is drawn for testing. technically, it's 6 months from the blood test date. 10 months minimum without delay. the blood test is free in Spain but
  2. there are two sets of pics, aren't there; shane's action pics are from NZ (southern cross is red not white) and not sure where Bull's haul of game were taken.....(not that we need exact location)? while you might not agree with how others hunt, john, you might try being a little more diplomatic when expressing your opinion. sure people should try to observe laws of the land, but when some of the laws are out-dated, not effective or just created by ill-informed pencil-necks whose idea of country life is sunday lunch in the suburbs, then i'd say if you aren't stealing or hurting anyone
  3. That's a nice boar, Mate, my compliments to your hunting team and dogs. Certainly it can get a bit hairy in the mix. With that in mind, do any of the other guys running down boar with dogs carry first-aid kits for the dogs? Our young dogs run with vest/collar combinations, the older dog with collar only but for me, the medical kit is up there as a worthwhile investment with the dogs well-being first and vet beills second. Happy hunting to everyone this season!
  4. thanks fellas, here are the litter mates of Blue: Brora 8.5kg, Balla 9.1kg and Laddich 11.6kg. All taken at 12 weeks two days. laddich, is likely going to be a little large for my preference but we'll see. so far my money is riding on Balla : ) Cheers!
  5. here's a little update on the dog that went to spain, here at 11 weeks with his 'mum' just about to send him packing to his new home (before the tears!) and this is the little female I traded him for, underweight after sour tummy at 9 weeks (this female now in US) I'll get some other pics of the other pups at 12 weeks this weekend for those of you who like the pics. cheers!
  6. sounds, good bro! keep your head-down over there, eh?! I don't think there are 50 alanos in the US yet and like you alluded to, those guys have mostly paid money which would keep them from risking their dogs!!!!!!! that's going to change in nearer future as I hope to be able to supply to hunters are realistic rates for the dogs, we'll see how things pan out, but I'll be breeding hunting dogs that will go to hunting homes. i'll look forward to a trip down the east coast! take it easy!
  7. pops, i don't mind and I think you are also a decent guy. i'm not breedblind, but i have a bit of experience with these dogs mentioned and have lots of contact with those who hunt them much more regularly. i don't know of any US alanos that has even been tried on a boar, if you do then you are one up on me (you can PM me to tell me about the ones you know of)......You don't MAKE a catchdog of an alano, which leads me to think that those you have heard about are not the real deal. That said there are those rare items which will go like a missiles at 6 months and others that will standy-off unti
  8. agreed, that's what makes them possibly the second best breed for boar-hunting : ) cheers!
  9. just make sure that those 'coons aren't likely to carrying distemper or rabies. check your regional data on this!
  10. laws don't always appear rational, agreed! the pigs don't actually fall into the category of game, but are covered by the laws of the state which mean dispatch with a firearm at 'arms length'!
  11. mate, i'd be as close to the pig as I am with a knife and shooting down through the heart into the ground. it's not an ideal situation but there's where the law stands on that.........at least for now. i'm sure i won't be carrying one of those boar off the hill alive!!!!! healthiest pigs are wild pigs.
  12. next year I'm moving out to the US so we should be able to put some time in on some escaped boar in the region as well as travel to hunting grounds. state allows hunting with dogs but you have to kill with a firearm. i'll likely get involved in some lobbyist activity to campaign for knife-hunting. until then, though I have to make do with a handgun at close quarters........(I'll have my knife just in case!)
  13. I expect they'll be the business We'll be able to follow their progress; Bluegrass (pic 3) and Brora (pic 4) are going to hunting breeders in Spain and Milla (pics 6 and 7) is going to an Alano keeper in Denmark. The other two I will keep in my stock. They'll all get a shot at the boar
  14. hey, Scotsman, you can see the parents at www.ambasorejas.com i have more updates to put in the site. Norro is the sire and Tora the dam. cheers, mate!
  15. Have you had much experience with dogos mate? not a great deal with dogos been out with them on three continents all the same, mate but I have much more experience with alanos. it was my opinion that I posted as I'd certainly rather wait a few months to get a few extra years out of a dog rather than get one out at 6 months for bragging rights. i do have a few friends who breed dogos, Spain, Denmark and US and i've also seen plenty piss-poor examples. what's your opinion, mate?
  16. 'start' has a few aspects, mate. in most cases the dog is emotionally ready before it is physically ready. remember a dog which is to be heavier as adult can easily become susceptible to arthritis if too much excercise too young. in my opinion, for a bulldog, dogo etc I wouldn't dream of starting them before 10 or 11 months. if the dog you have in mind is a good proportion hound, then maybe 8 or 9 months. not before. any pup that is to work shouldn't be 'beasting' until almost a year old. that said if you can have a younger pup tag along on a hunt, it does them good to be 'shown the ropes'
  17. proven hunters........on what? get some pics up, eh?
  18. that would be hard snoop has they only do surfs in auto, you mean 4 runner manuel DO YOU WANT TO HAVE A BET ON THAT YOUNG MAN I have a 2.4l Td Surf (SSR-G model)....manual gearbox ; ) The back window set-up isn't ideal (My Bronco was the same). The jaw-door is better solution for any truck like this. I love my surf. -10 Celcius starts first time everytime. 28mpg and goes anywhere(pirelli snow and ice on 15" alloys). I love it, not as much as my old Landcruiser BJ04 but a good workhorse and perfect for transporting the muts. Might have to sell my one since in Norway permanently and c
  19. Man i have just moved from Australia, i have hunted pigs all my life, i would be keen to get in contact. unfortunately my dogs are back at home, one is a bullterrior/greatdane and the other is a bullarab/bullmastiff/ridgeback. hoping that the bullterrior will be here within 6 months due to quarintine. I was speaking to the lady who runs my local kennels and she runs a business importing pets in to the UK and she told me that there is no quarantine coming from Australia to Britain. I took my dog the other way and there was 30 days quarantine. I'll try and find out some more as she was ad
  20. If you see Mike and Michelle Christman give them my regards! Neil
  21. This is maybe a little left-field, but I was wondering if anyone has contact with any aluminium working 'smiths? I'm trying to get an estimate (work done) for a flat-bed deck to mount onto stripped down fwd: poss hilux; poss Td5 110. Five-Bar-Plate with tie-down eyes. Approximate dimesions would be 2000x1600. Any ideas? Cheers, Neil
  22. c'mon simoman, mate......you must work for the CIA. I've heard of dogs being lined out in secret desert locations during the hunting season THAT and strange lights and noises......nevermind the siting of a sire in a white rhinestone jumpsuit, sideburns, DA and sunglasses heard to utter "Thank you, very much!" as he left the hangar. conspiracy for sure!
