Stocking Brown Trout

Recommended Posts

Enviro agency has to check water first to make sure that nothing can escape into other water courses and you have to use a reputable supplier but this is free, i am just on with sorting it all out,it can take up to ten days, i will keep you all informed.on the other point, there are hundreds of cormorants and gooseander on windermere and they hammer the fish they also are destroying all the trees on the islands with their shite, another big reason for the decline in game fish in windermere is the massive numbers of Roach and Rudd that have accumulated over the years more than likely left by visiting Pike anglers.Brian

brian is that even if you stock native species as in brown trout??

Even if you've got your own breeding program, with fish taken from the wild, the water will still need to be checked.

It's all about the transfer of disease and alien species..

In fact nearly all trout that you can buy will have gone through the triploid process and these will all be subject to fish moving certs. It used to be called a Section 30, but that changed last year, to eliminate red tape.

I understand the need for disease control, I have seen this little river turn around well, in last ten yr and maybee it's better left alone, I would have loved to give it a little helping hand, but I really do not like red tape myself, and would hate to cause more harm than good.

Is there now a license available to shoot Cormorants and stuff - thought I read something about this last season but can't seem to find it now. Seem to remember you had to show damage to wild population and environmental damage - seems to fit?

Darren, i have ordered 100 triploid browns at 9-11 inches average weight 1lb each, the cost was £273 + delivery, they have done a deal on delivery as they have another order in the area on the same day, so the total cost is £300, i don't think that is too bad.

Fish came yesterday, all in good nick, within a hour they were taking small flies of the top, i had planned on putting up some pictures but i dropped my sodding camera in the tarn with the fish, hope it dries out.

I got the size and weight ratio wrong, it should have read 9-11 inch average weight half pound, they should soon bang weight on as it is stuffed with natural food.
