Crows ?

Recommended Posts

i mostly decoy crows and i have found 34g 4s are great for crows as alot of the time depending on the direction the crow comes in if i hit them with a 32g 6 (my favourite cartridge) it will only take a few feather out or hit them and they will glide 3 field's away and crash land.

now with the 4s i set my decoys out a extra 10yards out as i find them hard to hit with the 4s at say 25 to 30yards compared to 6s.

when i hit the with the 4s at 50 and 60 yards they drop faster than the local sl.uts knickers don't like seeing them glide away and then suffering

I have been having a good crack on the crows of late, away early doors again in the morning.

Just using the pigeon specials, dead crows as deeks and they are howling in......had them dropping in just perfect amongst the deeks at 25 yards.

Ware the face mask, make sure they are committed and then let them have it.

32g 6s no problem at all

Crows have good eyes but can be the stupidest birds around

Its all been said already.

But recently Ive put about 200 down and Ive been having problems with a new semi auto.

Ive found out after swapping shells 3 times and shooting 500 shots to fine tune the gun that it had nothing to do with the cartridge or fit of the gun afterall.

It was the choke, I swapped to 3/4 and a 32grm cartidge and never looked back I did 21 the day before yesterday and all were stone cold dead before they bounced off the the stubble right out to 45-50yrds.

I suspect your first barrel is something like cylinder or 1/4, I tried the cylinder firstly in my semi auto and have never been as frustrated as I must have hit 30 birds one day and they all needed a second or third shot as they hit the ground running, not good so the tighter I choked the more convicing the kill, It was an unfortunate learning curve but having allways shot over and unders games guns I had never had such issues as most have been 1/2 and 3/4 and should kill pigeons crows and pheasants convincingly.

I have shot plenty of crows with a tightly choked game gun using number 7s in the past up to 20-30 yrds but if your serious about your crow shooting I recommend 3/4 choke and at least a 30 gram 6, Ive only recently got some good crow land to shoot.

Above all remember to wait and wait and wait untill they are ontop of you almost before sliding the barrel over the net and bang! and dont forget to wear a mask and keep very low and still under the net, and if your gun has a barrel selector try switching to the tighter barrel first.

i have been using 4s recently there definitely good job for the crows but i find i have to put the 1/4 in to hit any good number the 4s took a while to get used to but now i love them but at a extra £1 a box there hard on the pocket.

sick of hitting crow's at 45/50 and only seeing a few feathers come out and the fly on with the 6s

I think 6 is the minimum For corvids .

I shoot 3/4 choke 30 gram 6's

Through side by side or over under .

My personal count this year so far is 102 for corvids mostly carrion crows .

I shoot alot on the roost flight .

Iv only had 2 decoying sessions that accounted for under half my score .

I can't wait for the next 6-8 weeks to pass as there will be hords of crows to shoot !
