How very generous, Thank you!

Could I ask what kit would be best? Standard Weihrauch, Or what's these V-Mach kits I have heard about? As I have no idea :icon_redface:.

All this for a Pint? very kind, But a crate of beers sounds more like it to me

Gentlemen.   I feel compelled to write on what has been a really wonderful shooting day I've enjoyed with Andy (AndyFR1968) and his two smashing lads on Andy's permission on Saturday this weekend. I

Awwww... Thanks, Simon, and thanks to all for all the other comments about my boys folks   They've been coming out and about with me for the last three years or so but these days I'm only with the

Good for you Pianoman. Without people like you there would be less youngsters coming into the sport.

I can assure you Dean, it'll be the best price of a pint you ever need to spend. The Sandwell kit would be a brilliant option as the spring they include is pretty high tech and very long lasting and Andy will do a marvelous job for you. Get in touch with Sandwell Field Sports for one. ;)

Hi Gents.

I am so happy sitting reading this post, heartening and makes me proud to be part of a bunch of bloody good guys.

Many thanks for the compliments Simon, really touching coming from the Sage that you are.

Incidently i've found a few youtube vids on tuning Weihrauchs by a guy who calls himself Longbow.

He's a wizard and i had to pick my jaw of the ground after watching them.

Seriously amazing tuning of a different level entirely.

My ambition (firstly to improve my boys and my springer shooting) is to push it over the next few years to hopefully something like what he's achieving with the tuning.

All the very best for now Gentlemen.

Chris if this Longbow is what you say he is., after reading what you've been putting into your own rifle, he must be bloody incredible!

Dean I'm certain Si won't mind.

We are not given our skills and talents so we can sit on them and keep schtum while watching a fellow in need of a bit of help, flounder about blindly. There's enough of that already in the world out there. Bugger-You-Jack-I'm-Alright sort of attitudes. (Bankers mostly).

I won't have that. Not where I'm concerned and neither do most right thinking fellows here. Anything you need from me laddie just you ask. And I'll bet my best rifle that goes for the others here too!

Regards Chris and Dean

what a great thread lads, nice 1. i've just been given a meteor that i intend to teach my mates 13 yr old the basics with, before letting him loose on my permissions with me, as he's come out in observer mode a couple of times so far and thoroughly enjoyed himself(and behaved impeccably) so it looks like i'm gonna be his 'shoot daddy' lol.

i've never wanted kids of my own due to being the least responsible adult i know, but its great fun playing uncle and giving them back when theyre tired and crabby so their parents can deal with the grumpyness, and you chaps are right, its vital that we get the next generation involved in fieldsports before the antis and bbc get their way and eradicate hunting from the future.

my nans brothers taught me tracking basics and what would now be called bushcraft as a nipper, and my favourite childhood memories are of my father making me throw a sickie from junior school to get out and learn how to make a fire and teach me the different tree names and useful plants etc, before shooting down to my mates farm and swiping his dads pump up airgun to go plinking with(i think it was a sheriden, but my memories not so great...), with his dads permission, and sometimes tuition from him(you know, the kind of tuition that goes 'not like that' whack! 'like that!').

well done all for getting involved and making sure this great sport of ours continues into the future, nice one :victory:

cheers, wurz

Hi guys.

Cheers Simon that Longbow guy is really good with all the right gear for doing this kind of work.

As for the RWS Super fields they are pretty good to be honest, they rattle down the barrel too lol.

I've lost a couple from the breech when i attempt to close the barrel after cocking the gun they are so slack which is kinda surprising considering they are sized at 5.52.

I'm going to give some other pellets a go too as i'm a bit unhappy with some of the flyers in the H&N ftt.

Going lamping at the end of the week so hopefully i'll get a pic or two of some bunnies to post.

If anyone wants work done on their air rifle for nowt feel free to give me a shout as i love working on them and kinda don't have anything else that i can do to mines since they are all shooting better than me.

All the very best the now chaps.

Chris.

P.S Simon i've decided to make a pellet thingy that can be used to seat the pellet into the breech prior to shooting, i'll turn some of various sizes using lignum vitea wood and see how they go.

If they are any good i'll pop one in the post and see what you think.

If you have some sort of spec/size/shape you would like it drop me a line and i'll see what i can do mate.

Hi Chris

I must say, that's very kind of you mate, thank you! Sounds as though you have an HW80 that is exactly alike to mine by the way you describe loading the Superfields and having one or two slip out the breech. And getting the odd flyer nowadays from H&N FTT. They are a snug 5.53mm head pellet and I've produced some memorable shots from this rifle in the long past using them religiously. H&N FTT are also the number one for my sub-12 HW77.

But the RWS Superdomes in the HW80 are 5.52 and thus give such a slack-feeling fit. And I had one fall out the other day while out on my practice field.

But, man, are they accurate!

I had a great afternoon out on Monday last, practicing with my 80 and shot a decent bag of mink with it, quite unexpectedly. They were out individually foraging from the river valley I have here and I just had the perfect rifle at the right time in the right place. You need a very fast shot against these creatures as they are constantly moving furtively about and are lightning fast to react to danger. They've wrought havoc on the fish stocks and preyed on and driven out the voles from along the banks of the Went.

I'll write a chapter or two on Mink hunting and shooting with a spring air rifle in the book. You can happily use sub-12ft/lbs power with the right dose of accurate reactive shooting but, an FAC 80 is the tool for this job! A wary mink will not present an easy target at the best of times.

Cheers for now Chris and thanks for the offer again mate.
