hi all,

i have been trying to zero up my gun recently and my shots are going all over the place. i'm trying to zero it at 15 yards (i like to get close to my quarry) and i am in prone position with a gunbag as a rest. i am shooting at a circle drawn on cardboard, roughly the size of a 2p piece. just when i think i have got a consistent group and am ready to adjust the turrets on my gun, a few shots just go off in some odd direction even though i am aiming in exactly th same place as all the other shots.

please help,

Aaron

Aaron,

Fire 5 shots then adjust and then repeat. If there is the odd flyer, simply disregard it.

Draw a CROSS not a Circle to start with.

Get the Verticle so your pellets are landing on the line then start on the Horizontal until your pellets are hitting the centre (or near enough to it).

Like I said above disregard flyers and don't fire one shot, then adjust or you will wind up doing what I term "Chasing the shot" I used to do that in my youth until I was taught how to do it properly.

just try a few marksmanship principles mate

1)position and hold must be firm enough to support the weapon.

2)weapon must point naturally at target without undue physical effort.

3)sight alignment ie: aim must be correct.

4)shot must be released and followed through without disturbing the position.

these are all basic principles to grouping mate as taught by the british army good luck

if you have a black & decker work bench or something similar put it in the work bench clamping it tight enough to hold the gun then adjust tthe bench to line up with a target then release the gunn load it put it back in the bench looking thru the scope at the target shoot then adjust the scope turrets till your cross hair is on the hole in the target that way you will find out if you are at fault when shooting

Hi Aaron, Have seen with your recent threads you have some good kills under your belt, makeing you a competent shot, have you changed your pellet brand, have you got a silencer fixed to your rifle, remove silencer & see if the flyers stop, I know you use a break barrel are the jaws tight, is the scope faulty?, many a good shot will blame them self when a fault with the weapon's to blame.

foxon.

Aaron, looks like a fault a few Lightning owners get, forend screws shear off into cylinder, it is a fairly straight forward fix, by the use of pillar drill to bore hole in to studs that have sheared, without damageing threads to allow the use of an easyout, once this has been done the threads are clear for replacement stock forend screws, your Gunsmith will be aware of this as many air rifles shear there stock screws.
