jenksi87 3
if youve read any of my posts you will know that my jill would not work. she would not search deep at all or even attempt to do the whole set. well i took her out last week to a place where i know there are plenty of young'ens about. didnt bother with the nets. just took the dogs to let them have a chase on the off chance she would bolt any. got to what looked a half decent set. very over grown but you could see the runs in. let my mate climb through all the growth to enter her whil i got to the other side of the set incase she popped out there. tried her on a hole and she would not entertain it. put her to the next one and she went in. didnt hear or see anything for about 5 mins then a loud hissing noise and she was there dragging a young'en out of the set by the neck. my pal picked her and the rabbit up but i think she was a bit caught up in the moment and turned round and sank her teeth through the end of his thumb ! she soon realised and let go. ran straight back into the set and stayed in there for another 10 minutes or so and bolted 4 decent sized bunnys. i was as you can imagine very happy with her as before she wouldnt have been like this at all. got her home and fed her her kill. well half for her and half for the dog. got her out again yesterday to see wether it was just by chance, so i took her to a big sett to see wether she would work it all. she worked the sett for about 20minutes and bolted 5. i was satisfied it was now empty and put her away. looks like she just needed that kick up the arse to get her going and i'm sure shes gonna be a half decent worker now the pennys dropped. looking forward to the new season as i cant wait to see what she can really do. would you advise on leaving her till the new season now and hope she remembers whatto do or get her out every week or so and not bother with the nets, just see if she catches and keep reminding her what to do? Coneytrappr 30
Glad to hear that she's come on better for you. I've had 'slow starters' that have been worth their weight in gold once they've got going...and some 'no starters' as well glad your jill is one of the former. Quote Link to post

ferreter.al 22
glad shes working for you mate, a lot of people dont give ferrets the time to come on some are slower than others but then again some are just useless lol personally i think jills are slower to come on than hobs but just my opinion. i agree about the hobs,my polecat hob is just a warrior,if we are doing a big warren and no one is home he will stay down until he is certain, but i do like working the jills, less chance of a lay up!atvb Quote Link to post
