Air shotguns?

Recommended Posts

hi there, does any one know about air shotguns? i have seen that gammo one, but aparently there are others out there, i just havnt been able to find anything about them! I was wonderin if they would be any good for close range rat work in barns? the gammo one fires a few 4.5mm bbs at a time, but some one told me there is a gun (possibly a crossman or sheridan) that takes a decent load of bird shot. please pm me if u can help, as my internet keeps brakin, n i cant get on here all the time!

Thanks

Shark do a .50 calibre air shotgun and Farco do one in the same calibre as well. But as far as I know, Farco went bust and so you would have to look on the second hand market for one of them. Keep in mind, that they are FAC guns, unlike that toy from Gamo.

Read a bit about them a while ago but they all seem to be way into the FAC ticket range.

Various forums have spoken about them (try http://www.pyramydair.com/blog/2005/10/air...-fire-201.html) for an example but generally say that they all suffer from poor range.

Most are round the 9-13mm calibre.

Gamo (Viper Express),sheridan, farco, and the koreans made one called the Fire 201.

Read another article at pyramydair (can't find it now) about .22 air shotgun shells but again it said that you really need fac pressures to throw the lead about.

If you can get a fac ticket and a 22lr, then shotgun shells are available for barn use. I've seen them used but the riccochets made me very wary especially after being clipped on the face by one! In the end, my .22 with wad cutters did more damage to the rats than the shotgun shells did.

I have tried one of the Gamo ones in Spain and to be honest, you are better of holding the thing by the muzzle and throwing the thing after the rats.

I think they are made for the Italian market for close range song bird killing. :wankerzo4:

Years ago i saw an article about an air shotgun called "the setter" a pump up pneumatic made in the USA,it came with its own brass cartridges that were re-usable,it also had a rifled barrel insert in .22 i think.Definatly FAC though, looked very well made and a nice peice of kit.

Mentioned it to a friend last year and he searched on the net for info but couldn't find it,or at least not a picture,he did find the gun listed somewhere though.
