AL BUNDY 45
ScotHunter says! "Scotland wont get independence the main reason being the vast majority of scot;s dont want it.(fact)The scots who bleat about it are just jacobites who wanna stir up trouble there anti Monarchy anti protestant anti english thank f**k their a minority thats all i can say!" How ignorant can one person be? I'm a supporter of Scottish Nationalism, I'm not a member of the SNP. I'm not anti monarchist (I still believe the Queen should be Scotlands representative Head of State) I certainley am not anti protestant I'm a member of the Church of Scotland (baptised protestant and a former member of The Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland) and I'm most definately not or ever have been Anti-English, most of my best friends are English and I visit south of the border 10/12 times a year Now for a history lesson: In 1689 James VII, the last Stewart king of Scots, was deposed. There followed more than half a century of attempts to return the Stewarts to the throne of Great Britain. The Jacobites were the supporters of James VII, his son James Francis Edward Stewart, (the Old Pretender) and his grandson Charles Edward Stewart (Bonnie Prince Charlie). Jacobite support was strongest in the Highlands, although there were both Lowland and English Jacobites. Charles Edward Stewart was born in Rome in 1720 and soon became the focus of the Jacobite cause. To the British government he was the Young Pretender. The Jacobite rebellions were civil and religeous wars? the Jacobites certainly were'nt anti monarchists as the were fighting to put on the British throne whom the seen as the rightfull heir and historians agree the House of Stewart had a better claim than the Hanovarians? The Jacobites were not all papists involved in a plot to take over the crown many of them were protestant!! My own Clan (Cameron) were Epiicopalian (non Catholic) and fought for the stewarts After the rebellions of 1715 and 1745, penal laws were passed against episcopalians and they were so severe that it was not possible for an episcopalian priest to minister at one time to more than five persons without running the risk of transportation for life for the second offence. And yet, through all these bitter years, the Scottish Church kept itself in being and maintained not merely the episcopal succession but also its own liturgical tradition and a strong consciousness of its own independent existence. As a concession to those episcopalians who did not have Jacobite sympathies, and to meet the needs of members of the Church of England who had taken up residence in Scotland, Parliament eventually allowed the setting up of ‘Qualified Chapels’. These congregations were exempt from the operation of the penal laws, on condition that they prayed publicly for King George and did not recognize the authority of the Scottish bishops. In 1788, on the death of Prince Charles Edward, the last serious Stuart claimant to the throne, the Scottish bishops made their surrender to the house of Hanover, and the penal laws were gradually relaxed. But by that time the Episcopal Church had been reduced, in the words of Sir Walter Scott, to the shadow of a shade, with no more than four bishops and about forty priests. The diocesan and parochial systems had collapsed. Everything had to be begun afresh in the organization of a church which had lived for many years without a clear confession of faith, with a confused order of worship, and with hardly any discipline. Instead of cherry picking terms from Scottish history which have no basis in truth give us some facts rather than unfounded opinions Tom Ps: If they try to tax chocolate there will be another fecking rebellion I'm proud my countrymens input to medical research if it wisnae fur us scots they're would be no research into alcholisim, choelestrol, diabetes and heart disease fox gun tom you must be the biggest tit on here
