223 will do that job nicely. Suggest you go for softpoint or certain hollow point bullets though, ballistic tip = messy deer. At least it does with muntjac anyway.

1:9 twist would allow heavier ammo which might be better too.

this gets me woundering why you can shoot roe with a 223 in scotland but not england ?
Because the law is an ass mate

That's why I responded as below......

.223 is a very capable Roe calibre wherever you are but if you are in Scotland it has the bonus of being legal

My .223 is conditioned for Roe in Scotland, obviously not England...the Roe themselves are just as dead whatever nationality they may be.....

The Law is an ***!!

It's a long story but Roe were originally included in the Deer Act Amendment in 2007 for the .22 centrefire calibres. A question was then asked and the RSPCA consulted...can you adam and eve it, what the f*** do they know about shooting Roe???? ...their response was on the lines of...we have no reason to believe these calibres are humane on Roe! ...so Roe were removed from the amendment :doh::doh:

well Sade, if it was left to RSPCA the animals would be running the country, at the end of the day they are just meant to be a charity, charity more like the SS.
