Rabbithunter 456
my first lurcher lurcher, blade caught his first daylight rabbit at 5 1/2 months (it had mixy, but a good confidence boost for him) took him lamping at around that age 2 watch the other dogs. started slipping him at 7 months for 2 or 3 bunnies, 8months he was catching 6's regular january/February 06 he did well 19/jan got 8, two other dogs got 6 between them 14/feb he got 10 on his own 16/feb he got 12 on his own 23/feb he got 8, another dog got 7 In my opinion, before a dog is fully grown, its alright to have 3 or 4 runs 2 times a week. once its fully grown, just use it how you want Quote Link to post
juckler123 707
The best lurcher i ever owned would run up to game hares or rabbits put in a turn or two then come running back wagging his tail thinking that was all that was required this was at 14 months of age i was hunting on my own at the time and didnt have another dog to show him so i just persevered i didnt want him hard mouthed so i didnt rag him to get him keen most coursing men would have sold him as a quitter but at 17 months the penny dropped he went on to be the best hare dog ive ever seen and a sound lamper this dog would never quit on anything always guaranteed 3 out of 3 daytime so twelve months is nothing to worry about if the dogs fast enough it will get there but it will catch on quicker with another dog to watch/compete with Quote Link to post
