tony d 0
afternoon everyone, me and a mate of mine went out for the day yesterday came to the first set of burrows put my best worker in and all he did was kept rubbing himself around the entrance to holes(neck and head area), thought it was a one off at this particular hole but he done it to every hole we put him too? and never actually went in to any holes, luckily my mates jills and lurcher came to the rescue and we ended up having a good day. we were actually putthing the hob in first before the jills so i dont think he is scenting for them? any ideas? cheers tony Quote Link to post

Coatesy900 0
possibly scent marking to ward off other ferrets? Cats have scent glands on their necks and is probably same for ferrets. Quote Link to post

stealthy1 3,964
Buck rabbits scent mark at burrow entrances to ward off other bucks at this time of the year, I think the smell sends the ferrets a bit loopy because they can smell rabbits but cant chomp them, my jill does it to, and they dig just inside the enterances. tony d 0
hi guys thanks for the reply's. yeah they were collared up but i put it on the hole that i always do, so i dont think it was that. maybe the buck rabbit scent driving him a bit bonkers, bloody annoying though. cheers tony Quote Link to post
SwissTony 0
My hob did that the other day on a few of the holes. He also pushes himself round our back garden, with his front legs folded under his body and his back legs propelling him along. Got to be a scent thing as he is a smelly bugger Quote Link to post
Ginette 0
All my ferrets have done this especially round the garden whenever they're out. They love doing it in the leaves and any holes, soft soil they can find. I think its either territory marking or hoping another ferret will come along and be attracted to the smell. Mine have always done it and I think it shows they're relaxed and happy. Or maybe mine are just weird. Quote Link to post
