ferret sitting

Recommended Posts

Your post took me back to when i was 15 yrs old

Similar situation a guy gave me a poley jill which was pregnant.

Gave him back the jill and i kept kits.I honestly cant remember how many it had now

kept 3 jills and the bloodline is still there today.

My advice would be weigh up the pros and cons and if you honestly can say to yourself you wont have prob getting kits a new home then go for it we all have to start somewhere but bare in mind my last lot of kits totalled 14 from one very small jill

Good luck in whatever you decide matey

It's up to you far easier buying a couple of kitts in ,but if you want to deal with the fly's ,shit and a endless supply of meat for them all summer give it a go , With all young animals i like to give them a good supply of meat to help them grow build bone ect and cat biscuits aint the way to do it

my friend who has been keeping ferrrets for years has made me an offer, he has said that he will bring a pregnant gill to my house and i can look after her until she gives birth and distribute/sell the kits i don't want if he can have her back at the endplus one of the hob kits. he said he will help me as much as i need (he only lives just up the road).

what do you reckon?

ps. i have a suitable hutch and a run is comingn curtisy of another mate, land and the time

The question ive got to ask you is why do you not wait until the kits are born and have a couple off your mate? If you get a hob kit from another source you will have until it comes in to season next year to get it snipped. As Kay has said therre is a lot of resposibilties with kits and as you are a novice i would recommend against it.

Its a gamble but lives a gamble last time i had a litter i asked my son to look after them and handle them much the same as you will be doing i imagine , he made a good job off it .

The only other thing breeding a jill you can usually bet the hobs will out number the jill kitts but that shouldn't bother you as your handing them back

You go to a rescue your never sure what your going to get if you go for a kitt and ask the breeder any question's you feel your unsure of and you should be able to see the jill and how clean etc he/she keeps there ferrets .A rescue might be pushed for time but somebody breeding there jill should always make till to handle the kitts daily
