2 setts,2 rabbits,too cold

Recommended Posts

Well saturday i was ripping our fireplace out, which looked to be a all day job,i thought i would get up early and have a wonder with a ferret and a few nets, traveling light and just seeing whats about.Got up to the farm and it was freezing there was a biting wind, the ground was frozen solid,so i thought i would stick to the smaller setts.

Walked past the bales barn and a fox was asleep inside on the bales,by the time i got the camera out he was gone.Onto the first sett, just stuck the stop nets down and put the ferret in,then stood waiting about 10mins past and i was starting to get cold, suddenly a rabbit shot down the hedge into the stop net,i started running, but by the time i had got there, slipping and sliding in the snow the rabbit got out :censored: not enough bagging in the net :censored: thats what happens when you try to set a net with gloves on.Well carried on,walking down a hedge found a nice 2 holer with rabbit tracks outside and fresh droppings i put 2 purse nets down and entered the ferret, less then a minuate and a rabbit is thrashing around in the net :toast: .By this time i was really cold couldn't feel my toes or fingers decided to call it a day, plus i had to get back and start on the fireplace.

A few pics of the ground

The little wood in the centure of this pic was full of woodpigeons if it wasn't for the fireplace i would have come back with the shotgun.

Got home and ripped the fireplace out so we can put a woodburner in.I found a newpaper at the back of it from 1977 and yes MFI had a sale on even then  .

Thought i might as well have a fire in it,spent the evening in front of it. :drink::drink:

Nice one, I wish I had as much luck as you on the small sets. I did a two 1 holers, a three holer, a 5 holer and a 6 holer today. All showing very promising signs of rabbits (lots of tracks, droppings etc) but not one of them had anything in it. That said, they are all in very close proximity to two 12(ish) holers which I wasnt willing to sit around in the cold waiting outside. I only have one ferret in working condition at the moment and tbh hes not much up to it without his brother helping...

Anyway- good write up and nice pics ;)
