Bevwallis 7
Hi All Got up this morning- my lad went out to clean out the hutches before school and found one of the ferrets has escaped from a "fixed" hutch. She is really small -not long had her as she was a rescue - she hasnt been out much and so totally unfamiliar with the great outdoors. We cannot find her anywhere- i shall go knocking st neighbours etc as soon as i have the little ones to school but does anyone have any tips as to where she is likely to try and go? Or is it a totally hit and miss affair? She fed last night and so cant be hungry yet but is quite skinny Quote Link to post
Guest tewkesferreter
the lid blew off my hutch last weekend couldnt find her anywhere, searched the neighbours,no joy. after a couple of hours she was sat on top of the hutch scratching to try n get in. make sure she can get back in if she decides to come back,if youve got any live traps, set em round the garden, also let people in the area know you keep ferrets and youre missing one, tell em its your kids pet not a worker. stubby 175
very hit and miss I'd say, soon as possible search everywhere, under sheds etc, knock on doors and speak to as many neighbours as possible can you get your hands on a live catch rabbit trap, as this could be baited with rabbit and left near hutch in case she's still in the area, and wanders back of a night I've got one you can lend if your not to far Quote Link to post
Bevwallis 7
ok We have been looking all day-no joy. Neighbours etc we are telling as we can contact them-the plan tonight is fresh food in a hutch on the floor with plenty of bedding in the hope she will settle in there. Will keep looking of course - trying to find traps or i may need to borrow if poss Thankyou Quote Link to post

quicksilver 0
my son lost his ferret last year, we live in the country and there are no other house around us. We looked over the fields for the best part of a week and left dead rabbits out in areas that we thought he may be, the rabbits didnt last too long due to foxes etc. I mentioned it to my mum about 6 days later and she called into one of the local radio stations. Before she had hung up the phone a guy had called into say that he knew where the ferret was. The ferret had broke into a shed in a garden over 2 miles away and was trying to get at a pet rabbit. we evenutally got the ferret back as he escaped again and luckily was with a young lad in another development. The wierd bit about this story is that the guy who called into the radio station had a daughter getting married the very next day on an island in enniskillen , we were booked on a weeks holiday on the same island that day and met up for a drink. just goes to show that things work out for a reason, good luck with finding your ferret. keith Quote Link to post

stealthy1 3,964
Just keep looking, they tend to hang around in the same area for a fair while. Quote Link to post
Ginette 0
I'd say speak to all the local animal owners. My first hob was a rescue who came in a womans catflap playing with her cats. And he later broke out of his hutch here, and made a beeline for our neighbours 1/2 mile away and was found trying to 'play' with his dogs. She may also turn up with food e.g local poultry keepers etc. Good luck! Quote Link to post

SwissTony 0
Was she in good nick? eaten well? Glad you and your son got the little beastie back. I recently went to get a hob and jill off a guy who had just moved into our village. Unfortunately when my dad and I got there (8pm), they had found a hole in the hutch his girlfriend had put them in. Had a good hunt round the garden, but no sign of them. Got a call half an hour after we got home to say that the owner had found the jill dead on the road he also said he had seen the hob in the distance, over in a neighbouring field. He went looking for around 2 hours that night but never found him. The next morning he went to grab some stuff out the shed where the hutches were and there he was, munching on some cat biscuits that had been left out. The hob had only been at this new house for around 2 hours prior to me getting there and still remembered how to get back there after legging it across fields. Such a shame about the jill but I still got this beast Quote Link to post
