richie 1
i just meant that where you said " whats the point of swapping a calibre for the same calibre" that what sometimes happens is for some reason you may not be happy with the gun, not the calibre, and request a swap, thats all.I nearly asked for a swap for my .223 to another .223 a few months ago as i was having trouble with the gun, but was very happy with the calibre what .223 rifle did you end up getting ? ive been looking at a few remmy 700`s i reckon ill go for the sps varmint or the sps tactical... markbivvy 6
the variation will be free if you are not increasing the amount of rifles. if you keep the t2 and want a 243 the variation will be 26 notes. Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
can i do that a variation 222/243 .sorry for all questions .but if you dont know ask heh just ask for a "one for one" they wont be any charge, well my feo didnt charge... You can do a variation but they will charge. The free one for one is for when you swap like for like .222 for another.222 it depends what your firearms officer is like!! what you on about ? what would be the point of swapping a calibre for the same calibre ?? a one for one is to swap over two different calibres.. i recently done a one for one from a .38/357 to a .22 with no charge, that is classed as a one for one. F**k Me ..yet another balls up between police regions...a one for one does NOT mean changing, for example, a .222 for a .243 in most regions..that is a Variation and chargeable. you were very fortunate not to be charged...what police region is Surrey??? Read the HO guidelines...................they state quite clearly what a free 1 for 1 variation is. Simply, it is a variation where the total number of firearms held is not increased. Such a variation is free, does not matter if you swap a moderator for a .308 or a .22 for another .22. This is not a regional interpretation on firearms law but HO charges which are set in stone. CharlieT 32
Richie Yes, what they did for you is correct. A charge only applies if you increase the number of "slots" you have. Quote Link to post

Um... Yes it does A one-for-one is a slot-for-slot, irrespective of what's in those slots. Hence my one-for-one .17 moderator ---> 243 rifle... Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Sorry guys, misinterpretation and confusion and definition, to set the record straight...a One for One is a swap of like for like, ie trade in your .223 for another .223, no problem, unopposed and no permission required from FEO/Police, just a paperwork change! Swapping your .223 for a .243 is a Free Variation, home visit likely and definitely permission required, this can be refused! Adding a calibre/moderator etc is a variation and chargeable. Now, that is what I understand, and what a certain idiot, dipstick of a FEO tells me! So..perhaps we have all learnt something, or perhaps this is yet another misinterpretation of the rules by different regions! Hey Ho!! Quote Link to post

So..perhaps we have all learnt something, or perhaps this is yet another misinterpretation of the rules by different regions! Hey Ho!! thats f****d up, my FEO conciders eg: .38/357 to a .22 as definately a one for one " slot for slot " free of charge, & never had a visit on both occassions.. the first time i called them to change a calibre for a calibre i was expecting a charge, when i called them they said its no problem & just sent in your paper work for a one for one, never heard of the saying before they told me this.. mind you, my lot also class a fox as vermin,as you say "yet another misinterpretation of the rules by different regions!" rich Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
I have had several variations where calibre has been changed, no visit has been required. Said FEO may yet again be wrong... Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Give up..perhaps when a lower calibre is required.......I can see and perhaps understand ......... I have a .308 can I have a free variation for a .22LR instead... I struggle with...... I have a FAC air Rifle.. I'm swapping it for a .308... ...variation may be free BUT..that is also very refuseable and needs reason/need..does not add up! But then again, not many of the firearms law do add up!! Sterry 0
I really do think the firearms licencing authorities should get their act together and have a set of rules that is universal. just today one FEO told a friend of mine (for whatever reason) that its "alright" just to take out the magazine of a rifle will be sufficiently safe. my friend was confused and asked if he meant the bolt but no he meant the magazine.
