old dog 210
Sunday come around once again, the difference today was that we got soaked to the skin bloody weather i would rather have the cold weather back, anyway scent wasn't that clever today rain and wind didn't help matters and where we were hunting it's a hard place for hounds to get on terms with their quarry, the first funny fellow they found was in a dense bramble cover the hounds were only 50yards away from where i was standing 20 of them i could hear them but i couldn't see them that's how dense the cover was, hounds worked hard to push him out,he then got into a open wood where hounds could pick up they're pace, but i got to say it was stop and start i seen hounds going out the top of the wood and because of the wind i couldn't hear them anymore even when the boys shot him i couldn't hear the shot but i had news of it on the cb.Had hounds back a drew the bottom side of the cover, tinker my little fell bitch found one and started screaming i knew he wasn't that far in front of her she was running him on sight but he headed back into the bramble slowing the hunt up ,by now nearly all the pack was there with her, this one broke cover going into some marsh land where he was accounted for by one of the boys, hounds didn't leave much of him.Hounds found in the next place we went to but he was shot straight away there's no second shot with some of these farmers that hunt with me,we crossed out then over the other side of the valley easier place to hunt big fern banks, hounds were working hard on this bank you knew there was one there, one of the boys shouted there he is,he got up in the middle of the hounds and ran down the bank, not one hound seen him going away they were still busy looking for him scent must have been shit going back a week ago they would of caught him of the seat, but there you go that's hunting for you, gambit, digger, secret, started to speak and took a line down to a big earth on the bottom of the bank hounds ran over the holes checking but not marking any, some hounds ran back up the fern but then turned back as the other hounds started to mark, put hounds up on the bank and waited terrier in,it wasn't long and our friend was out legging it across the bank, one of the boys having a shot at him, hitting and turning him into an open wood hounds were in full cry hunting him to the end of the wood marking him to ground again, this time digging down to the terrier who had accounted for her quarry,3-45pm end of the day time for a cup of tea and a sandwich back at the farm.
