martin 332
Hi guys i need some help, whats the best scope in your opinions for a 223 used mainly for fox and why would you choose it, thanks guys and girls The best scope you can buy for ANY rifle is the most expensive one that you can afford,as you only get what you pay for.The other side of the coin is,do you go for a fixed mag scope or a variable power scope, and that is just a personal decision.I have just bought another rifle that is going to be a dedicated fox rifle, and,I am in the process of loking for a suitable scope as you are.I am looking at Schmidt & Bender/Swarovski or Zeiss, and,I am going to be after a variable scope with an object lens of 56mm.I will also be trying to get one secondhand so as to save as much money as possible, which should mean that I could go for a scope that I would normally not be able to afford brand new.I shoot a .243cal rifle for the deer, and,I managed to get a S&B 2.5-10X56mm scope for £400.00 so decent buys are out there, you just need to keep looking,I hope this has been of some help........................Good luck......martin. glamour 1
I've got a big AGS mate, can't fault them for the price. If that's out of your budget my first scope was a hawke nite eye sr. Cost about £145 or something and that's pretty good again for the cash. Find one you like and go on www.reviewcentre.com, theres loads of review info on there. Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
As said buy the best you can afford but you should be looking at spending some decent money, don't go cheap as its a false economy...... you will only need to change at a later date, i would go for a variable power scope personally as your rifle has the ability to reach out to 300 yards and over, fixed power will make the target rather small at those distances........ if you can't afford new go secondhand but go quality............ cyclonebri1 8
Ok, accepted, but buy a cheap scope, see what it does for you. It's a 10/1 chance that you may get a good one. When it/if it doesn't work, or you feel you need more, , buy better. All shooters need to know the difference Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
thing with the cheaper scopes is at night it will show up under the lamp compared to say a zeiss,s&b,swaro, meopta bushnell elite is about the best scope for around £2800 to £300 pound if you want mag like 6x24x50 then for £400 to £500 the zeiss conquest and then s&b and swaro if you want the £1000 pound ones. for me the zeiss works perfect for my needs its mid priced but can see foxes out to 300 yards with it in the lamp that suites my shooting needs perfect. and i like the fact its 25 mm tube so saves alot of weight lads are right though the rifle is only as good as the scope. it costs abit but you get the best you can aford. with mine i got th best scope i could aford i got the trigger sorted, and now only reloads to sort. i no the rifle will group better now and thats what you want to get out your rifle Edited January 9, 2009 by jamie g Quote Link to post

Deker 3,491
I totally agree with quality BUT, and there is a big BUT, I have a few £65-£90 gems of JSR scopes on rimfires and centrefires and they are Brilliant for the money, day and night. And at the end of the day all you can lose is £65-£90...worth a try for some, I suspect you Will be surprised! Don't write off some of the "innexpensive" scopes...optically these JSR are really pretty good, the big difference is the overall build quality which simply does not compare to some of the "expensive" scopes..but if you are not in the £300-£1500 scope league do not despair!!
