doddsy1970 9
I was up bright and early this morning and picked the father in law up about 7:30. I spoke to a farmer friend last night and he asked me if I would take a look at a warren next to his stock pond, so off we went arriving just as it got light. The warren we were doing is on a bank which has in the past been used for dumping all sorts of rubbish from tin sheet to concrete slab there are also alot of logs and branches from when we cleared the pond in march last year and the rabbits had taken refuge in them as well. We netted up the 'tip' and I ran the long net out around the logged area and entered my most experienced hob in the 'tip' end and waited................... and waited........... and waited. A sweep with the locator showed him moving but nothing was bolting. I was just about to enter one of my jills when a rabbit bolted straight out of a hole we had missed with my hob close behind it. I re-entered my hob but he was out in a matter of seconds telling me nothing else was home, so i boxed him up and put one of my jills in the log pile within a matter of seconds a rabbit had bolted straight into the longnet, success at last. The jill went straight back down and we could hear thumping and every now and then we would see a rabbit moving through the branches, they were giving the ferret a right run around so I put in my hob and a young jill for which this was her first ever work day and bingo rabbits started bolting and the longnet caught 6 in 5 minutes, but we were not finished there, all of a sudden 3 rabbits bolted at the same time, each heading in a different direction but all ended up caught in the longnet, I was untangling one as was the father in law and the dog was holding one in the net. That was 10 rabbits in under 10 minutes and we still weren't finished we had 2 more rabbits out of the log pile both caught in the longnet. We then moved on to a small bury just a yards from the first 2 and we managed to get another 3 rabbits out of there plus we lost another one. I was home by 12:30, 13 rabbits an overjoyed old man and 3 happy ferrets. Quote Link to post
