Cant believe that anyone would keep a dog shut up all this time. Watch for repetative behaviour- unless he's had exercise he will have some strange habits just to pass the time of day. Shadow chasing is a favorite- quite easy to deal with depending on how bad he his. Do lots of lead walking & praise to build his confidence & try use a none aggresive docile dog to see how confident he is around other dogs. It does take time but is rewarding when you reach another goal. Quote Link to post

labsnlurchers 39
Get your mates to visit and give him a lump of cheese and run their hands on him like a judge would do in a show. socialise him as you would a pup. He will get better but probably never be 100% but thats no matter, makes them harder to nick if they wont go to strange people. Quote Link to post
Doglost Co-Ordinator 4
I still use harness & flexi lead with saluki I took on 3 mths ago. She's been running loose for 9 mths, she's getting better especially this last week. Seems to have really bonded with my male dog & they will now run & chase each other but then she switches off & dont take any notice of anything. Using a flexi or lunge line -even cord washing line will give him a bit off freedom & you some control. I use cooked liver & cheese work starting recall, not that Sal will take any notice of it unless she chooses to. Does he like toys? has he ever had them. Even rolling a ball in front of him may get him playing- Sal goes loopy-like she's picking up hot coal-throws it back on the floor & pounces on it. It's more finding out what makes them tick then working with it. He'll probably be ok, just need a bit of patience like others have said. Quote Link to post
