my mate had a half bred bull x that used to catch hares for the fun of it so u cant just say that salukis are the only dogs witch can catch hares

I would say thats probably a "one off" as I have never seen a bull x which was a decent, consistent hare dog. What time of year was the dog catching them and was it during the daytime? Some of the bull/saluki/grey mixes do ok, but they dont usually have a lot of bull in them, just enough to give them that grit and stamina, very unusual to hear of a straight half x bull/greyhound that kills hares regularly daytime :o

he used to catch them on the lamp about this time of year im not on about catchin imature hare he was a very racey half cross very game there wasent much that got away from him you dont get many like him he died last season

On the lamp is completely different to during the day though, dogs that cant get a bend in daytime, can often catch them at night on the lamp. But thats a whole other debate :D and one that usually gets messy :( Personally I think if your talking about running hares it should be daytime and lamping doesnt even come into it. I have seen hares run 3 or 4 circles on the lamp trying to get closer and closer to a gate, shake off the dog and make their escape, run them in the same park daytime and there would be no circles, just a dog getting straight lined as the hare goes straight under the gate and into the next park, but some people see what they want to see when the light goes on and not whats really there in front of them ;)

fair play your some character you are you constantly start threads slagging of saluki crosses then when your called out you wriggle out every time like i say your rabbiting dogs will jack on big land at this time of year full stop you wont accept that because like your mates youve never coursed good hares on big land at this time of year. but if your still convinced you dogs are the real deal against a saluki cross or a pure i can soon arrange a match for you for any money you want but some how i dont think your going to accept are you

I don't need to lose money challenging your saluki on the fens.... I know I seem to be repeating myself constantly but hey ho... here goes again.... It was your statement saying that only a saluki would catch a hare on the fens in the next 8 weeks that I was disagreeing with, still am btw. Now, you can puff your wee chest out, throw up all kind of challenges..... The fact still remains..... Dogs without Saluki blood WOULD catch a hare on the fens in the next 8 weeks!!! :signthankspin:

Just incase no one has read it, on another thread someone has stated that only a Saluki Cross will catch a Hare on the Fens in the Months of January and Febuary. I say that is a load of old tosh but since I don't own a Saluki, can't comment on it!!! Go figure!!! Anyhow, I have asked the guys in question that have argued with me over the matter to nail their colours to the mask and actiually say they are agreeing with the statement OR are you going to bite the bullet and agree with little old me!!! :drinks:

Over to you guys..........

WHAT A SIMPLE b*****d :wallbash:
