The Tracer mini is rated to 250yards...the Tracer MAX is rated to 400yards!

I have the PRO version of BOTH (the dimmer switch units).

I think it's Uttings that is doing the Max Pro kit for £99 at the moment, lamp, dimmer switch, charger, 7.2ah battery, scope mount, carry pouch, and last time I saw a "free" red filter as well!

These are not the greatest quality lamps but as far as I am concerned they are the best value for money you can buy and very capable!! And if by any chance you do have a problem, Deben will fix it, or supply you ANY parts you need to fix it!!

The Lightforce Striker 170 is the only other lamp I would "possibly" consider, but it has a 50% brighter bulb than the "MAX", 75w (rated for 600 yards) and costs a lot more!!...and eats battery packs!!!

The tracer it is then i thinks! i've been told that scope mounted lamps affect the ballance of the gun, is this true? I can't imagine it affects it too much its around the centre of gravity and mostly be shooting off of sticks or bi pod

Anything you do to a gun effects its balance but there is very little weight in these units and I have never heard anyone complain about balance or weight issues caused by these units!!...Just be sure to get the Pro version with the dimmer switch!!

The vast majority of my lamping will be on foot so is the light force and battery combo light enough to carry comfortably? (im fairly fit its just id rather keep weight to a minimum especially climbing through and over gates and fences)

The Lightforce 170 has a 75w lamp and "rated" to 600 yards...if you want that, it is better than the 400 yard beam you asked about..if you don't why buy it as the battery life is shorter or you will have to buy a bigger (heavier-more expensive) batter pack to support it. Personally I would only consider the 170 if I wanted to push my range out a bit, the Lightforce 140 has a 50w lamp, same as the Deben Max, the Max wins every time here for me!!

I also have 7 rifles, all with permanent scope lamp mounts for the Deben Mini/Max...Scope Mounts available at £3 each!!!! (pm me I will tell you where). Scope mounts for the Lightforce are £19.95 each!!!!

You have to decide what you need/want!!

Lightforce scope mounts come with the scope mounted lamp last time I bought one

Yes John, agreee with you there...so do the Deben ones, but that doesn't help a lot when you have 7 rifles...a few extra are required unless you want to change them around all the time..a real pain in the backside especially if you change rifles during a cold wet, windswept night...at £3 a piece for the permanent screw on metal mounts (not the plastic push ons) it's easy with the Deben (6 extra scope mounts on the Deben for less than the price of one on the Lightforce), they are also a lot smaller and simply live permanently on my rifle scopes

Obviously only worth considering if you have more than one rifle but worth considering nevertheless!!

Not at all, mine don't break once rewired, they all have a purpose. Blitz when someone else wants to use it spotting. Striker for spotting from the vehicle. Striker for my rifle. Lance for shotgun or .22lr

As for the Striker coming with a 75W bulb, it's easy to change it to 50W if someone wanted to and I'd bet there'd still be a better beam out of that than a comparible sized lamp ;)
