Really don't understand what went on today, Me and Col who has also just joined this site hit our patch of woodland in pursuit of some bunnies, thought we would delve into some new parts as the woods is totally massive, got the the first lot of sets to discover they were occupied by foxes so moved on, found plenty of good well used sets, fresh footprints and droppings everywhere, netted up got ferrets down and nothing, moved on again nothing lots of signs of activity on all the sets we ferreted and Cols dog was marking them well so we thought we would at least get something, all day not a single rabbit bolted and only saw 3 above ground, towards the end of the woods we found a load of well occupied badger sets so give them a wide berth and headed back home, last couple of outings have been pretty poor with no more than 5 rabbits in a day which we don't understand as there is piles of droppings, digs and well used sets everywhere, we are on the lookout for some more land now in the north east if anyone has a bit spare or could point us in the right direction? Or any help as to where we might be going wrong as all the signs look good in our woodland bit of a :wallbash: for the both of us :(

Try putting a lamp on your ground at night to get a true estimate of the rabbit numbers on there mate ,but its been a bad year in some places number wise

thats what I suggested but we don't understand where the rabbits are during the day, if they are in their burrows surely the ferrets will flush them out and the cover isn't that thick so the dogs should move them, either that or our ferrets are no good :icon_redface:

If you see rabbits in the lamp that could be the next thing are your ferrets going deep enough to force the rabbits out ?. Then whats the ground nearby like maybe there far travelled rabbits ?. Take it one step at a time mate

the ferrets are up for the job mate as you know by last week, the jill wouldnd budge til it bolted those two rabbits out of the set ,and you know it wasnt small or shallow.i just think there is very few rabbits on there now and what is there are above ground as we seen with those three today.it might be better off being left alone for a season or two to recover a bit, just my thoughts

Does sound like they are on the top, in seats, rushes and pop holes. Dog may be the key to this sort of hunting,

We have Col's lurcher/collie cross ( I think) and my flat coated retriever in front of us all the time, seem to lift more pheasants than anything else haha
