Hope all goes ok at the vets sounds like ur fond ov this hound. The lump may just be a swollen gland ( i know there are lymph glands around that area), fatty deposite, scare tissue from a muscle tear or a tumer of some kind. i dont know much about do health but these are my guesses.

all the best

thanks for the replies the lump is between his right leg and his penis its a fair old thing i was thinking an hernia or maybe a trapped testicle thats swollen up he dosnt seem to be in to much pain with it but i hate the thought of him been in pain as you see i am fond of this dog he has come along way and im proud to own him ill be gutted if he never works again but i will gladly sacrifise working him as long as hes ok ill just keep my fingers crossed and keep you posted on his progress!
