bez 0
if weather not right mate wont even take her out .i want everything in her favour dont want to rush it for the sake of a couple nights wait Quote Link to post
LDR 29
Take her along and see what she's like with the squealing and excitement, if your mates dog retrieves live then after you've necked one, chuck it down for her whilst its still twitching and see what she does with it, you'll sharp know whether her retrieve is gonna be forgotten for a bit, then go on from there, but hand pick her rabbits for her!! I'd say depending on the breeding she's got would dictate whether she'll be ready to run or not, i've had dogs going full belt at 11 months and others that still cant run properly untill 18 months.......you know your dog better than anyone mate!!!! MATTI 34
Give her a go mate, but when you are waiting for her to retrieve don't stand next to your mate's dog, as your pup will think she's bringing her rabbit to this other dog especially if it's lunging on the end of it's lead trying to take it off her. Good luck. MATTI Quote Link to post

LDR 29
she collie/grey mate if she pisses about with it shall i call it a night with her and then leave it a cpl of weeks ?and keep on with the retrieving training Dont be too quick to take it off her, give her loads of fuss and just wait till she's ready to give it up (that is if she aint f****d off with it) if she does piss off, then just quietly put her lead back on and call it a night, keep a couple of rabbits for training with, they will tend to f**k about a bit the first few times, as it feels different in their mouth, unless you've already used rabbits to teach retrieving!!! most importantly, remember she's young and you've got her for years to come so dont rush it too much now!!! wild rover 548
she collie/grey mate if she pisses about with it shall i call it a night with her and then leave it a cpl of weeks ?and keep on with the retrieving training Only you will know when the pup is ready, physically and mentally, look back at thread on starting a lamping use that in your training and don't rush it. whin 463
take her out and see what she can do if my dogs not catching a rabb at nine months and not trying i would have to look at were i was going wrong, find places were its in the dogs favour ive spioled the odd dog starting early but has some real good dogs starting early ,dogs thta would catch any were with game sense to boot , my 4 month pup goes out at moment al least once a week on lamp ferrets if its a nice day and has started learning to mark abit and realises rabbits are in there ,he even tried to get a netted one last week and the other nite mhirn caut one fetched it alive i says fech it, had enough rabbs, let him go he runs down hole comes back out and pup grabs it quite funny , but that will do him for a while got to learn him im boss and he knows what hees got to do later on , i think takeing a pup out young for days out under supervision and an expierenced handler can do no harm ,then back to trainin till hees 7or8 months as you do want then to retreive and heel up etc and youll never do that when he sees dogs catching rabbs as i work mines as free as a bird no leashes , unlees for the own safety or there been with strange dogs as that gees them up Quote Link to post
