Sterry 0
Im about to apply for my first FAC in febuary shortly after im 17 (cant wait ). initially i was just goin to get a .22lr and when i get few more quid in the bank get a dedicated fox and muntjac rifle. i also didnt want to(lacking a better phrase) push my luck with the FCO, considering my age. i have a fair bit of land for the .22lr and a few bits for a .223 (one i know is cleared for .223). Any opinions on the matter whether to get the variation for the .223 and .22lr when i apply for a grant or wait 18 months or so before gettin the variation? Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
If you've got the land for it, put in for your 223 at first application. They will probably add mentoring as a condition so make sure you have someone lined up ready. Beyond that I can't see it being a problem if you have the land and some foxes for good reason! SportingShooter 0
I'd go along with that. Put both of them down when you first apply (Dont forget to put a Moderator for each one too ) As Mr L said, you will more than likely have Supervision condition for the centrefire until your Mentor is satisfied you can shoot it alone (See my Pinned post on FAC's, there's a supervision bit in there.) Deer? Is another matter. If you have someone who has Deer on their FAC and is willing to accompany you, then you can kill two birds with one stone for a Centrefire mentor for both Fox and Deer. Sterry 0
None of my family hold a FAC so would it be legal for the mentor to be the farmer on whose land i'll be shooting with? Fox wont be a problem he hates the blighters but deer i dont know anyone with them on their ticket, maybe i'll get a variation for that bit later on. Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
Mentor simply has to be someone with some experience with what you want to do, so if the farmer has a centrefire rifle and shoots foxes, and he's willing, he'll do nicely. Alternatively do a DSC1, but they ain't cheap. Quote Link to post
huntwithhounds 3
just been granted a .222 for fox on my first fac. The best bit was i put down for a .22lr because i was told by various people that, that was all i'd get. The firearms officer came around and i showed him the land and he even suggested i change my application and add on a .222!. I was like a kid in a sweet shop!. He said he treats every application on a individual basis if he thinks your sensible and know your facts he will grant you anything within reason. good luck Quote Link to post
