Mr_Logic 5
Out tonight, zeroing my Leupold VXIII 4.5-14x50 which I just got from Deker (remember that one John? He didn't like the ret so I had it instead!). Got it zeroed for 50 yards (I was being lazy) and headed out. Lovely click adjustments, took hardly any time and was very impressed. Given the Butler Creeks and optics, I can see very clearly indeed. Not quite S&B, but very close. Before I saw any rabbits, came across a fox trotting across the field. He saw me and trundled off out of HMR range, and then disappeared. I could see him clearly until the hedgeline, and he'd gone Somewhat miffed (when I first saw him he was in shotgun range) I carried on... Quite quickly I came across the first rabbit. Been a while since I had decent magnification on the HMR, ended up using 10 power-ish. Extra mag and clarity very helpful, first rabbit in the bag. Walking across the fields of my normal shoot, I counted 11 roe deer, and then saw a muntjac in the woods as well. This being the land where the deer-lovers say there aren't enough deer. Pish-tush! Rounding a corner I spied some more bunnies, ended up with two of those, one body shot and one messy headshot. I picked them up and began walking back, planning on leaving these for one of the chaps that lives on the shoot - same guy who did the deer last week. I needed to collect my dinner from him too, so seemed like a plan. Carrying the rabbits caused pain in the hands as I had to grip tight since I had gloves on, it being somewhat nippy. Spotted another in one of the hedgerows and a perfect headshot meant I now had 3 to carry. Eventually made it back, dumped the rabbits for now and mooched off. Shot one more bunny, went for a headshot and sadly clipped him - I hate it when that happens. Did my best on the shot and tried to find the rabbit but under bushes and I couldn't find any sign Ending up at the car, the logical start point, I had a quick scan round and saw something, not sure if deer or fox, in the distance. I squeaked and it came in, so foxy then. The fluffy ears and red fur kinda gave the game away too. But he escaped into woodland So I gave up, and went to get the rabbits sorted, and grab the meat for dinner. When I got back again, just one more scan as you do, but this time caught sight of foxy lying down in the long grass. Not sure at first as all I could see were eyes, ears and the top of the head. Since it was 100 yards away and with decent glass I could see nice and clear though, so foxy got a 17gr plastic tip in the skull, seemed to work quite well Always happy to get a fox, I can't help but wonder if the small dog was the same as I saw earlier, and the same as I saw when out zeroing my other scope but 2 days ago. Hope so, little bugger pulled the wool over my eyes 3 times so nice to get my own back!! So, all told, a very successful evening. With both the 223 and now HMR, I've been amazed how much good glass adds to enjoyment of shooting at night, and how it adds to the confidence when taking shots. Just works so much better. SportingShooter 0
Things are looking good Mr L Albeit a little round HMR, its a great round to take out for a night, I like, when I do go out, to have one of us with the HMR and one with a Centre. Makes it a bit more varied and less noisy I've looked through that scope of yours Mr L, and it looks like I didn't break it, unlike the rest of John's equipment Glad you had a pretty good night. Deker 3,478
Scope works fine, is a quality piece, and is a credit to John, my problem was only ever with the reticle, Boone & Crocket. Mr L was interested so moved it straight on to him, worked well for everyone!! Every scope I have is Mil Dot and that's the way I have decided to keep it!! SportingShooter 0
Nice one, So is the breaking still going on or what................ or is it ACCIDENTAL............... Stems from my visit to Galway Snappy. John's Sako, was working fine until I was in the vicinity, the bolt went stiff Then I heard him mutter when we had shot his .223 (I think my shooting was to blame not the rifle) that it should be tighter grouping than that So I thought, seen as I handled Mr L's scope when I was there, if it was alright Just harmless fun Snappy Quote Link to post
