It will never happen for sure, to much money is being earned out of the chemicals :o , If they were going to ban it then under what grounds?

damage to wildlife :o ......lmao :laugh: it will never happen because if they really cared about wildlife then the shelves would of been cleared of amatuer use products years ago

the government agencies like DEFRA, and others like RSPB, Natural england and many others have not got a say about it when it comes to the good old revenue coming in from poison sales ;)

There is a book availabnle online, written by a rat catcher from the turn of the last century. They used to have 'rat baiting' as a sport, in which rats would be killed by dogs/each other in a pit. This was very popular, and a large quantity of LIVE rats was always required. So, the rat catcher (in cities as well s in the country) would catch as may live ones as he could and get paid handsomly. When this practice died out as people became more 'animal friendly' so the demand for rat catcher with traditional skills diminished and so the rat population increased and I guess a new breed of rat catcher was required to kill only.

Some of the techniques in the book are very interesting, such as putting out mounds of sawdust in an infested area for anight, then coming back and doing the same the next night, but this time using the sawdust to cover a trap. Takes them a while to cotten on to this method apparently, and when they do, you can change from sawdust to some other material.

Anyway, a little bit off topic, but a good read of traditional rat control skills to compare with todays methods and the reasons why killing vs live catch have changed over time.
