FAC theoben eliminator. Please help

Hi everyone. I have recently got my fac license and am just deciding which rifle to get. Originally I wanted to get an theoben eliminator due to its reputation as the ultimate springer. However since speaking to almost every gun shop in the country every single one has put me off getting one and advised getting a daystate or rapid. I really wanted to get the eli but feel I should go with the experts advice. So I am hoping someone on here will say the opposite and tell me what a superb rifle it is and that they are talking rubbish as I really don't want to get a pcp. It would be in .22 also and the piece of land I shoot on is 150 acres. Please help :confused:

brilliant guns just harder to shoot then a standard gasram or pcp.

i have shot several and its all in how you shoulder and hold them.

 

try and buyTDs booklet on the gun (from Theoben).

It may or may not be the best springer but it IS a Springer!!!

 

There is no way I would suggest you get a springer in FAC, PCP is the way to go!!

thing is mate are you going to be hunting alot with it ? if so then you want the best accuracy you can get and im not saying the gasram rifle isnt accurate because they can be. but it takes some getting use to shooting a fac gasram powered air rifle they kick pretty well and are lively.

 

i think you would get better groups with a rapid or daystate pcp or even a nice s10 fac.

 

you have to look at the pro's and con's of both ie...

 

[pcp pro's]

 

1. accurate as hell

2. a good amount of shots per charge [ depending on power setting]

3. very silent with a good mod

4. well fac air is harder to sell a pcp in fac would sell better then gasram power fac

 

[pcp con's]

 

1. you need charging gear

2 .it will cost you more then a fac springer

3 .the gasram wont run out of air like a pcp will [ then again a rapid fac at 30ftlb will have more shots then you would need]

 

 

gasram fac air pro's

 

1. cheap

2. no air to run out of when shooting

3. cheap to service

 

[gasram fac air con's]

 

1. nosier then pcp in fac

2. hard to find a good spring theoben that hasnt been messed with.

3. recoil will take more getting use to

4. well it can be accurate you would shoot pcp better i think . [ with spring and gasram guns its about more pratice]

 

 

HOPE THIS HELPS MATE. AT THE END OF THE DAY GO WITH WHAT YOU WANT. MAYBE TRY A COUPLE AND SEE WHAT YOU THINK.

This is exactly the way I started,

 

I wanted a FAC springer, was advised by everyone against it, so then thought about, and nearly bought the theoben rapid at 30 fps. (actually had the credit card out and talking to the supplier...out of stock!!!)

 

Then finally was talked out of that due to cost... gas bottles,pumps etc.

 

Ended up with a.22rf which is super accurate almost silent cheaper to buy and cheaper to run.

 

Wont look back!!!!

 

Think seriously about it, you have plenty of land to shoot on!

Jamie g has got it spot on regarding both sorts of air.

 

I had a Theoben Fenman and another springer the name of which escapes me - both quite accurate FACs but with the recoil, took a lot of getting used to. Now have a Theoben S type at 52 ft lbs - ultra accurate with pellets right through rabbit's heads at 60 yds. Have rim and centre fire rifles but always have plenty of time for the air especially where there is a risk of ricochets that one can get from any of the rim fire calibres.

Rapid 7's are superb.

I have one running at 60ft lbs, (fac) fitted with a Logun silencer. (very silent)

yet to see a rapid run nice above 40 ftlbs, even ben taylor doesnt set them above about 38

The Mk11 will go to 50ft lb with a little effort but 60 is very high..and frankly I struggle to find any reason to run an air rifle anything like this high, .22LR is cheaper, easier, more convenient etc, etc!!
