Morning Mooch

Recommended Posts

Out this morning just before daybreak looking to try and bag a roe doe. Anyway I headed for the only stubble field left on the shoot and spied charlie coming up the hedgerow straight at me , rifle on the sticks and down she went , a good start to the morning and it was only 7.15.

I continued stalking looking for a doe , as I came through a game crop which has now been knocked down a bit I noticed 2 does , the nearest one was looking at me at a 45 degree angle. I placed the crosshairs on her shoulder and heard a solid bullet strike but the doe took off at great speed into the adjoining wood. I inspected where she had been standing and there was a lot of pins and blood.

I was confident that I would find her just inside the wood but this wasnt the case

I searched for 3/4 of an hour but to no avail.

Therefore I went and picked up Woodga who brought along his terrier together with my pup and we searched the wood and beyond. We were searching for a good 2 hours but there was no sign of the doe. :(

Thanks Woodga for giving me a hand , all I can think of is that the doe must have fallen into the river which is swollen with the recent rain and been washed away as we searched everywhere and it had just vanished............

So what started off as a good morning ended up to be a bad one :(:(

we covered every bit of cover in that wood and no sign at all the terrier was showing interest along the river bank and at one point was actually in the water next to an old tree we couldnt see any blood sign but judging by the dogs actions some thing had been there as he wouldnt leave the spot so we presume it had gone into the river at least we gave it our best effort no one can fault us for that i know when we got home i was a bit shattered climbing around like a mountain goat you know foxy im getting on a bit now so please in future one shot one kill :tongue2:
