Its best to keep the pup inside, nothing you can do really except reassure. For next year there are cd's you can get for dogs with firworks, gunshots etc. I would invest in one now as your pup is still at an impressionable age and playing this cd in the kennel or house now will get the pup ready for next year. I think if you start the cd playing quietly and gradually over say a month or 2 increase the volume, reward the pup whilst the cd is playing with little titbits.

Keep her in with you, but don't overdo the reassurance. Just act normally and don't respond to her fretting, it kinda fuels the fear and tells her she does in fact have something to worry about - if that makes sense. Just go about your business and let her see there's nothing to be worked up about. Turn the tv up, run the washer, play loud music etc. Try feeding her a high carb meal before the bangers start to make her full and dozy. Calming signals like yawning may help her to settle down too.

Definately invest in one of those fireworks cd's. You could also try getting some Rescue Remedy from the herbalist but it usually takes a few days to build up in the system and do it's job.

Hope this helps. I'm pretty lucky, one of my bitches doesn't bother about fireworks at all. The other one just stands around looking tense at the best of times so I don't really notice any difference when the bangers are going off :D

got a family pet dog here who goes nuts, just started to rip the kennels to bits,so have now had to keep him indoors

under the stairs,he is ok in there, have tried herbal remedies with him,but they do not remove the fear,i will have to get

the CD and desentisize him for next year, the terrier i have is not too bad,but he has witnessed the other dog's fear

so has picked it up,i'm not overdoing the reassurance for the terrier as i don't wan't him going the same way.I dread tonight, possibly this weekend and then there's new years to go,atb,

Higgins
