scared dog

Recommended Posts

i have 2 year old beddy whippet that i've had for about 6 months, he's is a well behaved quiet dog who loves his ferreting and lamping, he has been the perfect companion and have not had any problems at all......however, for the last three evenings, he has displayed some very odd behaviour, during the day he is his normal self, he works well, sleeps, eats, shits and plays all day and usually falls asleep in front of the fire, then, sometime during the evening, he will sit up and gaze around the room with his ears half cocked and start fidgeting, he seems to be following something around the room, he goes to the lounge door and seems to be looking into the other room, he looks up at the ceiling and seems to look round the room, the room is dark and there are no flys no noises or anything, he then backs into the lounge again and hides behind the sofa or the curtains, he will come out if i call him but not for long, he seems very nervous. if i go into the other room or upstairs, he is his normal self..........can dogs see or sense things we can't, i don't mind admitting, it's got me thinking about silly stuff like ghosts and that, it's just really odd behaviour, has anybody had a dog do stuff like this before ?

I did have a dog like this once , a bull terrier , a killer with other dogs , great with people, but he was scared of the loft hatch in my old flat many years back . The flats were very old and very close to a reputed `haunted ` pub in Walsall . He would`nt come up or down the stairs ( he could but the hatch was at the top of the stairs ) It does get you thinking i gotta admit .

My first lurcher when I was a kid once tuned into something, walked him a thousand times through a a small valley known locally as "Dead-mans valley"legend ran that a drift-mine in the valley walls had collapsed killing several miners, took him through one night and he froze staring hard at the rock-face,hackles up and growling :icon_eek: Tried to walk him past the spot and he refused :icon_eek: Just kept growling and whining

my nan had a jrt that used to sit at the top of the stairs outside her sewing room, after it died my dad bought her another,as the new dog got older she noticed whilst in her room making her dresses it would come up the stairs and go out of its way to go round the spot where the old dog used to lay and at night she would swear that it sometimes felt like two dogs laying at the foot of her bed instead of one :icon_eek:
