foxmad 0
i love my digging but for me any working dog be it a spanial or a terrier for what ever work the owner asks of them and they are good at it is a pleasure to watch and a pleasure to own Quote Link to post
top terrierman 90
bushing is ok but its not a patch on digging to me a real terrier is a digging one.your dog only has to be middlen to bush.but has to be top class to stay digging season after season Quote Link to post
matt11 0
have to admit there is nothing that beats digging but a bit of ratting is good fun, just put up a new topic of what i did this morning. Quote Link to post
woz 260
Digging is not an effective means of pest control ?! utter bollocks ! So bushing is harder than digging ? explain please. i have had spaniels, mongrels, collies and other dogs that would all bush, and easier to control than a bushing terrier, and safer to shoot over. Im not saying that terriers are shit at bushing but its true vocation is under the sod ! what utter shite!!! bang your terriers into an earth you kill what ever is down there.....with a rifle you can take the specific fox that is causing a problem..the only talent in digging is the dog.....im not saying that bushing is harder on the dog at all....terriers true vocation is under the sod....more bollocks!!!! terriers have been specifically bred for diferant jobs be it ratting bushing ferreting or digging... the only terrier thats worth having is a digging dog......iv heard this shite time and time again!!!... matt11 0
glad to see there are some decent blokes on here woz!it takes time to get any breed of dog to work correctly and admire anyone who can do it!we should not slag off other peoples sports just enjoy what we do. Quote Link to post
dfee 1
what utter shite!!! bang your terriers into an earth you kill what ever is down there.....with a rifle you can take the specific fox that is causing a problem..the only talent in digging is the dog.....im not saying that bushing is harder on the dog at all....terriers true vocation is under the sod....more bollocks!!!! terriers have been specifically bred for diferant jobs be it ratting bushing ferreting or digging... the only terrier thats worth having is a digging dog......iv heard this shite time and time again!!!... so how how do you no that the fox in your scopes is the fox causing the problems, they all look very similar to me,as for just banging in a terrier and killing whatevers in theres alot more to it than that, and to say the only skill is in the digging dog, wouldnt mind seeing how easy some people thought it was to dig a deep hole say 10ft in hard ground or sticky clay.because it aint. mouse 282
banging a terrier in and killing whatevers in there.DONT TAR EVERYBODY WITH THE SAME BRUSH MATE PLEASE.cheers mouse. Quote Link to post
Guest tadger
I,m to lazy to dig so i prefer bushing, each to their own. Quote Link to post
downsouth 8,333
I agree with Dev. Had some great days bushing and ratting and the best bushing dog and ratting dog I've ever seen were a spaniel and a whippet respectively, although Downsouth's Meg is a phenomenal bushing terrier. funny storry last season i had a mate travel down for a days diggingwe went to an earth that id been keeping an eye on all the signs of the gear at home so i let meg off who along with all my other dogs i allowe to bush rabbits etc when not out digging she ran straight over the earth without stopping luckily my mate grabbed her before she went through the wood checking earths on her own.my mates dog a right tough customer who we had been digging to all winter was showing real interest in the earth so my mate asked if he could try him .My mate let him in and he pushed on to the far end of the earth we let him settle then dug down 4foot to him with a rabbit. The next spot we had a good dig to meg then on the next we dug to my mates at 6 1/2 foot with 4 bottled up.Now i expect to dig to all my terriers but i start them all off bushingand normally when it comes to start them at their proper work its just a matter of taking them to a hole with something in itand i never have problems with them marking rabbits to ground.CONGRATULAIONS ON THE NEW ARRIVAL STABSY HOWS LIFE TEATING YOU BUD Quote Link to post
Guest dee mac
woz your a brain dead idiot terrier come s from the latin word terra which means earth and they were called this as the killed or bolted vermin from there under ground home s they were earth dogs first and fore most.running around blowing smoke into rat holes with souped up hair dryer s or bushing rabbits is not the bread and butter of proper terriers in my eye s . matt11 0
from my point of view most terriers will kill rats and what ever else is put in front of them but not many will find, work and stay, under ground with its quarry.but what ever you are into, but i feel that earth work is what most terriers were built for!!!!! scent 509
i find it hard to comment on this cause i hunt cover for foxes with my terriers and dig with the same terriers.Personally i feel that digging is the main test of a working terrier .Iv seen heaps of so called working terriers that would not go to ground and iv had a few of these so called terriers. The ones iv had and gotten rid of i wouldn call them working terriers. For anyone that thinks digging terriers are not working terriers i ask you to drop a terrier in an earth and dig 9 feet to that terrier that stays with its game for 3 to 4 hours. When that terrier is lifted from the dig exausted ask tourself is this dog a working terrier Quote Link to post
patterdale(shot) 0
banging a terrier in and killing whatevers in there.DONT TAR EVERYBODY WITH THE SAME BRUSH MATE PLEASE.cheers mouse.i agree with dev a terrriers duty is working under ground stays with the quarry till u dig to it anything else above ground is sport to a terrier in my eyes, i would rather have a terrier went to ground to charlie etc than it pushing it to ground this is my opinion on this post so nobody take the hump or start spitting the dummy out it"s just my way of working terriers when i take my terriers out for charlie at all times even if i know my destination or not my two terriers and whoever might be with me terriers are always coupled up till we get to the destination of where we might locate charlie that"s the way i was always brought up when i was a lad by my father and a few of his mates and i"m just taking after what i have been shown over the years as i am not a young boy i am a 32 yr old male i know what i"m doing and i have served my apprentiship by humping and carrying the gear and all the accesories for the job and at the end of the day i would not have my terriers hunting above ground then having to dig to a rabbit as people have did this in previous years and probably learnt by that experience thats a fine terrier keano Quote Link to post
