They went to the fur trade I guess

We used to sell ours to a fella who advertised in the back of shooting times, £25 per pelt but they had to be good, dry and have the fat trimmed off and all cleaned up.

Just asked my dad, he sold them for between 20 and 30 in ireland in early to mid eighties.

Back then a working fox dog (terrier) could be sold for 300 - 400 easy he said. He said Never sold a working dog though despite having 6 kids to feed on a jcb drivers wage. Fair play to him I think.

I think bringing back the Fur trade would be a very good thing as long as,there was a close season for target species (any bad problems out of season should be sorted by a government trapper). All snares and traps should be "name tagged" so dodgey and dangerous trappers could be fined.I dont think many people would get on the band waggon because its not quite as easy to get good kill ratios as people would have you think and once people had to start skinning, scraping, stretching and drying skinns people would soon realize that its not the romantic lifestyle that they`ve read in books :good::good:

I dont have a clue how much the equivelent of £30. would be now......Maybe about £100.????????

Its bad enough trying to dry out a rabbit skin never mined a fox skin so I don’t think that many people would be interested in it. Also there is some very good fake fur out there that’s much cheaper so I don’t think they would give you much for the genuine thing any whey

I dont agree there Stevo. Most of our British pelts would be exported to Russia, china and other countrys around the world and they will pay top dollar for well primmed pelts. There no Fake fur ever made that will keep the cold out like real fur.

People forget that furs arent just used for fashion, they are also used for practical purposes all over the world and as ive said before, our pelts are just waisted because we aint allowed to trade Furs anymore
